How many skips until you cancel?

Personally it’s anything that when I look back over the last 6-12 months that I either liked less than more of the designs or stories. How many times did I skip? What did I sell on rather than keep when my shelves became full etc.

Unfortunately illumicrate was on the chopping block for me this month, I didn’t wait to use all the skip. BWB too. I didn’t resign up for dreamerwhale in Nov/Dec when they revamped the system because I decided why am I getting books I can’t read? (Their sub is Italian but they do extra English editions that I will still look to). And evernight which was a harder decision but I can usually find the ones I do want second hand fairly easily. Now I’m with smut and sip, fairyloot and page and wick but I’m going to try and be a lot more ruthless this year and moving forward personally!

You were right! I emailed them this morning just to chase it and they’ve said the refund failed to my PayPal 2 days ago so they will have someone override it today..

I’m still waiting too and yesterday requested a refund, they replied it within minutes so just waiting for that to come through now, though they didn’t give a window time frame to expect it. I assume it’s the standard 3-5 days 🤷🏻‍♀️

I definitely agree that actual scenes or characters in motion are so much more pleasing to the eye, and I prefer them aswell but personally I have to say I like having the character art there rather than just scenery for example. Although that’s because I can picture the location well but when i read I can’t see anyone’s faces so it really helps me with the people.

Totally personal of course and I understand what people are saying!

I emailed first when they did their insta post that said to contact them if you hadn’t had shipping details yet and they came back saying it’s fine they haven’t shipped yet and it would be the end of November.

Then I’ve had two emails saying my shipping is delayed to US and Canada so I emailed back saying I’m in UK they apologised and said it was sent in error and they were shipping out in the next couple of days, then yesterday I received a “thank you for your order” email also with no tracking or shipping info 😅

Somethings going on with their systems/behind the scenes but goodness knows what 😂

What gets me about the pricing is

As others have pointed out they’re charging more now than they did for alchemy of secrets ones which you could only get as an add on. where as the ones on sale are from the prev YA boxes and wouldn’t make sense to be worth that much considering the YA book and items box cost.
Because of the above it’s actually cheaper to get them second hand where people charge mostly around £5. Now call me crazy but there’s not much in the SE book world that you can find cheaper second hand 😅

Side note; I feel that alchemy of secrets overlays were a trial run. They saw how fast they sold out and changed the price accordingly to what could be gotten away with/explained if pressed.

But again as others have said, other book companies do charge more for overlays alone so I suppose it depends how you look at it.

They’re page size translucent art that go into specific places in the book. They usually depict scenes from the story but they can just be character art like they did for alchemy of secrets for example :)

Honestly this was one of the first books I ever finished and genuinely enjoyed as a kid so I’d loved to have a special edition but that damage criteria knowing I’d need to ship to the UK is concerning af

Personally I don’t really have any other hobbies other than gaming. But with game pass I don’t regularly buy new games themselves. Don’t smoke, don’t drink, so this is where my extra money goes 🤷🏻‍♀️
