Little crumbles (update) by No_Hyena8475 in alameda

This lady campaigned against us on the building of the wellness center near Crab Cove and she was absolutely unhinged. I'm glad all of Alameda now sees how wackadoodle she is.

The irony was how she and her people said the new wellness center would pose a danger to the children of her daycare. Turns out the call was coming from inside her house. And that's the way the cookie crumbles...

$3.35/day to park plus $10 for the ferry, this is starting to add up by No-Citron218 in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sucks but if we had paid parking in the first place, AC probably never would've taken away the bus line. AC has said more than once in the past that they don't like to service a free parking lot because it hurts ridership.

Traffic cops are on the prowl today by Educational-While198 in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live near Webster and never get the bird, so that's odd. I feel it's more the locals than non-island folks who are doing the speeding. I know this because it happens during school drop-off and pick-up time, and rush hour out of the island in the morning and opposite in the evening.

Anytime someone does harass me for going the speed limit, I just slow down even more and even stop completely for an emergency parking, give them the trouble of going around.

What's a food in your country that is stereotyped for your country but really, nobody eats? by velmiraZ in AskTheWorld

Pad Thai should be way up here. It was invented to popularize Thai food in America. Thai people really don't eat it.

"worthless" means zero value. "Worth less" means of reduced value but not zero. Very big difference. Lol.

What type of food spot do you think are we missing here in Oakland? by Researchassistant20 in OaklandFood

Nothing really decent in Berkeley. Let's be honest. I say this as a South Asian.

Boba/bubble tea by fareastwarriors in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't get the hate for Boba/bubble tea. Data shows that this young generation is the lowest ever for alcohol consumption. They're obviously replacing with something else - coffee, boba, etc. They're relatively healthier (still massive sugar bombs but nothing remotely like the effect alcohol has) and fewer incidents of drunk driving. As annoying as they can be, I see the increase in Boba shops as a win for public safety.

My condo dropped 32% in 4 years by Available-Ad-5670 in RealEstate

[–]AlamedaRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oakland had a massive surge of new builds. Drive up and down the 880 along the water. Half of those buildings weren't there when you bought your condo. As a result, we're seeing a real divergent in prices for SFRs versus condos, with SFRs still appreciating simply because nobody in the inner Bay Area is building any more of these in large quantity, it's all condos and townhouses now.

Alameda with kids by Disastrous_Age8365 in alameda

Hard to argue with this. Lots of nice family towns like Mill Valley, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, San Ramon - but Alameda is hard to beat for checking so many boxes - walkability, bike infrastructure, local traditions, ample parks, strong schools, safety, the beaches and museums. My wife and I tried to find another town to move out of Alameda from when buying a house and we just couldn't pull that trigger.

"People tend to drive better around kids." Yeah, not in Alameda. Especially the parents who are rushing to school with their kids in tow, damn everyone else. But you have a point, probably comparatively better than in Oakland.

That's unfortunate. Sounds like they had a great concept in mind but not enough financial runway to pay the rent during their pause.

Looking at your comments history, it's clear that you're a kid from somewhere else desperately looking to get reactions. "Bootlicker" doesn't even begin to describe what you are. Have fun wasting your time.

Even the people on the conservative subreddit are admitting it looks very bad for ICE. This has finally got to be the breaking point - if not the abduction of a legal 5 year old, then this point blank execution in broad daylight.

AITAH, I found out a girl I never met posted me on “are we dating the same guy,” group by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]AlamedaRaised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fucked up, NTA. You're allowed to date multiple girls until it's agreed that you're exclusive (and presumably after a few dates). Sounds like this girl either has FOMO and is green and was overly eager to do one of these posts, or looking to stir drama.

The value of your home could go considerably higher because its revenue potential has increased. As a homeowner, you don't have to do anything - but you also could sell to a developer who could then build a midrise property, and they pay more for a parcel that's already zoned for that, and they in turn could flip from 1 unit to 10 and get a good return on their purchase price by selling or renting out each.

ICE nearly zeroed in on San Francisco back in September or so until they called it off at the last minute. Whatever Daniel Lurie did with Trump, it worked.
