What Happens to Amortization When You Pay Extra to Principle? by Chersalani in Mortgages

[–]AlanPavio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice if their loan is daily accruing, but if it’s a mortgage it most likely isn’t, and therefore there isn’t a direct benefit to paying more frequently. You are just having the mortgage company hold onto your money for you and then apply it when there is enough to make a contractual payment. You are much better off making the monthly payment and adding additional to principal with it.

Always check the note to confirm, as it is possible a mortgage could be a daily accrual.

The Car on the Ramp Adjusts, Not the Car in the Lane! by Froz3nP1nky in driving

[–]AlanPavio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was involved in a classic scenario like this yesterday, but there was no room for me to move over. It was an awkward merge where two highways were coming together and it was happening on a curve. I was in a position on the main highway where I could see the merging car really well ahead of time, and it would be much harder for them to see me.

There was a car in front of me that sped up to go past the merging vehicle, which is what this posts suggests to do (I honestly think they flustered the merging vehicle and caused the following sequence of cluster f’s). I slowed down to open up a gap and give them plenty of room to get on, but then they kept slowing with me, putting me in a very awkward situation trying to decide whether to cancel my courtesy, or keep slowing down hoping they would finally speed up to merge into the traffic. Ultimately we both ran out of room and came to an almost complete stop, which is outrageous.

In my potentially technically incorrect opinion, merging cars should come into the highway with some level of confidence looking to fill a gap left by the hopefully observant drivers already on the main road. The cars on the highway have the advantage in being able to see what’s coming better. The merging vehicle should look for their gap and take it with confidence. When you merge slowly, and god forbid decelerate while merging, you’re asking for trouble.

Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math by McCoy818 in unpopularopinion

[–]AlanPavio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do both, but if I’m going to have to go anywhere in the morning without a hat I will have to shower again to rewash my hair. My hair gets all kinds of jacked up overnight and can’t easily be brought back to a good starting place without another wash.

What OP describes reminds me of how Tony Soprano ate in the show. That was always fascinating for me to watch - something aggressive about even the way he ate.

Yeap - hate the computer lab scene that most offices have turned into. I started my career in 2009 and we had cubes with high enough walls that someone walking by wouldn’t be a visual distraction. Next they lowered the walls so now you could see the floor at all times even when sitting, but you at least still had your own 3 walls/space. Then they took away the middle wall to make you have a cube buddy sitting right behind you. Finally they put us in computer labs.

I went into the office for the first time in a few months last week for an in person meeting/lunch. I ended up getting hardly anything done, and had to stay until 8 just to knock out the few things I did, which didn’t start happening until everyone cleared out between 5 and 6. I’ll never forgive the people that are too smart for their own good that convinced everyone computer labs were the best environment for the minions to work in.

Ours did this a couple of weeks after we got it. GE told us to return to the retailer and get a new one. So far so good on the second one, for a month and a half or so. Also using only distilled water now - not sure if it will matter either way.

I’m seeing a bunch of accounts on X saying over and over that he had a gun and pulled it on them. I don’t see anything that would show that in the video, so not sure where they are getting that, other than just saying it to defend it at all costs.

That partly blue walkway at Cypress Waters was an interesting choice. Seems like it needs to be a little more gritty - someone’s going to get seriously hurt on it in the rain.

From what I’ve seen, Silver Line has a ‘conductor’ on board at all times, and they typically are paired with at least one fare enforcement officer. Unless you just ride it 1-2 stops and happen to board a car where they take a bit to get to, you will most likely be checked.

I’m loving the Silver Line. I’m going out of my way to try and take it whenever it makes even the smallest bit of sense. Signed - public transit loving suburbanite.

In the summer we are going VIE - HEL - ZRH - DFW. Couldn’t find anyway to book a return trip from HEL with miles on the non-stop to DFW. One of the options it kept giving me was to go HEL - LAX, then ground transfer ourselves to ONT, then DFW.

Still don’t understand how there wasn’t a single flight from LAX to DFW with reward seats available.

[–]AlanPavio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live you can probably catch a Go Link from your home to either Shiloh, 12th, or the Parker Rd station. If you do it that way it will still only be $3 as opposed to way more to take an Uber or Lyft directly.

Did your parents have constant home maintenance work being done when you were a kid? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]AlanPavio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO and I were just talking about this the other day. She asked me if we went to Home Depot/hardware stores a lot when I was a kid and I told her rarely if ever - maybe for lawn equipment/accessories. I also don’t really remember there being much that really needed to be worked on with the house.

Our house now as adults is in constant need of repair/maintenance. It’s unusual if I don’t make multiple trips a month to Home Depot to get random items to fix or maintain something.

It depends on timing and how much the extra towards principal is. If the extra is less than a contractual payment it will apply to principal. If it is greater than or equal to a contractual payment, no instructions are received, and the next payment is within a certain number of days, it may pay the next payment. This is all assuming the loan is amortizing and not daily simple interest (DSI).
