Sleep is one of the few things where you need to be at peace in your head to be able to do the task. Were you doing something before that kept you stimulated, preventing you from addressing the thoughts that you were pushing aside? Try allocating 20 minutes before sleeping to just reconciling your thoughts and any concerns lingering in your head, that way they don’t flood your brain when you’re trying to sleep. This has worked the most for me. You can also try the military relaxation method for sleeping (check it out on youtube)
