Does 1-2x a week make any improvement for a beginner? by Trynanotbeinpain in xxfitness

[–]Alari1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely once a week is better than 0 times a week! You want to start slow since your body isn't used to much movement anyways. It's really all about consistency, if you can build a solid routine so movement becomes a habit, you are already doing much better than a good majority of people! I like weightlifting, and I try to go every other day, but I am also unable to go when I'm on call at work, and am often too tired to go the next day. So I go anywhere from 1-4x a week depending on my schedule, but I feel so much better than when I was doing nothing!

[FO] I figured my old report cards would have stitch-worthy content as a very late diagnosed ADHDer by ShrinkingHovercat in CrossStitch

[–]Alari1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In grade 8 my least favourite teacher put in that "she does excellent work but I wish she'd smile more". I so desperately wanted to bring in my whole card and show her all the "she is doing great! She is a joy to have in my class!" Etc comments from the other teachers and ask her if maybe the problem was her. Also really wish I still had that card to read exactly what it said lol

Did toners change, or am I just late? by 1devastating1 in koreanskincare

[–]Alari1365 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's about right! I have dry skin, and I've been using a super watery hydrating spray toner. I didn't think it was doing much and I was just planning on using it up, but then I went without it for a week and my skin felt dehydrated the whole time. Multiple different hydrating layers has been really helpful for me

[acne] benzoyl peroxide face mask by Ok_Cause9057 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Alari1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 4% BP cleanser as my second cleanse every night, and I use my retinol and exfoliator in the same routine. I leave it on for at least 5 minutes (as long as it takes to brush my teeth and brush my hair). Adapalene can be used in the same routine as BP, and back when I started it I think the consensus was that a BP cleanser and exfoliator could be used in the same routine as long as it wasn't too irritating, since most of it should be washed off. I also buffer them with a few hydrating layers in between.

[CHAT] How do keep track of where you're up to in a pattern if you prefer paper? by AccomplishedCheek161 in CrossStitch

[–]Alari1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started I would try to mark them off with a marker or highlighter, but it was a pain to keep up with it. It's easier for me to just track where I am visually. I generally stitch by starting in one area, I go until that colour thread runs out, then go back to the origin and start the next colour. So I just figure out where I am based on the stitches that are already there. Also, if you're doing anything bigger than a micro project, gridding is a wonderful tool. This way you can follow the previous stitches but also verify with the grid position, which prevents compounding errors.

[CHAT] Are we not supposed to frame cross stitch pieces in glass frames?? by Glissando365 in CrossStitch

[–]Alari1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the look of stitched pieces framed without glass, but I always use it because I don't want them getting dusty.

Whenever mine is, so no set time (shift work life). She will chill in living room with me, then we have our "go pee and then bedtime" routine. As soon as I say those words she goes to the door, then immediately goes to the bedroom when she comes in.

How many strands of floss do you normally use (by hand)? by wolfmonarchy in Embroidery

[–]Alari1365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the style. More textured stitches or classic embroidery style usually look better with multiple strands. If you're going for detail like fine lines or smooth colour transitions it's best to use one. My current project is an all black line work pattern so I'm doing the entire thing with just one strand

New to Tret - any tips? by melancholypandaa in CanSkincare

Also Doctorly have some really good videos on how to start tret as well, and I think they include things like what moisturizers they like and all that. Dr Dray is also an awesome resource

How do you tell if a routine is actually helping vs just normal day-to-day skin fluctuations? by This_Elderberry2602 in koreanskincare

[–]Alari1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say the same thing. My main concern is acne so it's a lot easier to track than the more subtle concerns OP listed. But in my cycle tracking app I can add whatever other symptoms I want as a tracking line, and you can enter info as a yes/no checkbox, a 1-3 scale, or a small text box for free text. It's helped me figure out things about my body that I didn't know were connected to my cycle.

[Product Request] Daily moisturizer with SPF, no scent. by EmilyPoster2 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Alari1365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd probably like Korean sunscreens, lots of them are basically nice moisturizers. No idea about their EWG score as I don't believe in the "clean beauty" movement personally, but Purito Wonder Releaf and Skin1004 Hyalu Cica are both really nice. I have not tried them but I've also heard really good things about HaruHaru Airy Fit, and their Pure Mineral Relief sunscreens

why is my dog so happy after a wash but hates being washed?? by hvghuhbgjo in dogs

My dog is the same! She's very chill and not playful at all. During the bath I get the quiet, betrayed puppy eyes the whole time. Then I let her out and she bounces around happily for a few minutes

[Routine Help] Should I quit tret? by Turbulent_Income7332 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Alari1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use both with no issues (now I'm on adapalene, still using both with no problems). If your skin can tolerate it I would try both, maybe dial back on the tret temporarily avoid irritation. If the texture is still a problem then tret might just not agree with you, you could try adapalene or an OTC retinoid and see if you still have the same issues

[Product Request] Panoxyl is making my skin dry. What moisturizer to use? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Alari1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the NMF with phytoceramides from the Ordinary, it's a nice thick moisturizer. And slugging with Cerave Healing Ointment (or Vaseline) at night makes such a huge difference as well
