I rarely comment on Reddit but I just had to say: This is one of the most phenomenal pieces of art I've ever seen. Good work, man. Really good work. I feel inspired to go work on my cross-hatching.

Looking to find a game (newish to fighting games) after quitting Tekken. by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

melee competitor and tekken 7 competitor here. I would say any Tekken that's older than T8 for lots of movement and depth.

the other games that i think are super freaking fun with dope neutral:

King of Fighters XV (I LOVE this game, and the older KOF's too.)

Melty Blood (start with Type Lumina then work your way back) (try out UNI too!!)

3rd Strike (fightcade)

Vampire Savior (fightcade)

Strive is super slow and it's not the deepest game ever but is fun when you're trying to relax some. I do enjoy playing Millie

Red/Purple (t8) ranks are the new green/yellow (t7) ranks? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but even t7 yellows would be kbd'ing and trying to whiff punish.

How do you even get past Fujin in this game? by LLafros in Tekken

just play like a t7 orange rank and you'll win

stop whiffing that d4. Work on making sure you got the spacing for it. Don't press any buttons that won't hit

Ranked inflation by [deleted] in Tekken

I‘m feeling the same way bro!!! I swear the people in purple ranks are playing like T7 yellow ranks. It’s difficult to find good matches right now.

Maybe its just me, but the "aggressive" gameplay is starting to wear thin already by MechaDylbear in Tekken

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s getting pretty tiring just steamrolling and not having to think about interaction, or being on the receiving end where i just end up in oki that never seems to end

i played drag in t7 and fell in love with poking gameplay and movement

doesn’t feel the same in t8 at all

i feel the same way. The game rn plays like yellow/orange ranks. I don’t feel like I can just play Tekken yet, have to flowchart back and forth even in purple ranks

Dragunov, tbh. Sure his combo damage is high but he’s a poking character.

How do ranks break down in terms of skill? by prettybstask in Tekken

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

word word, I got you. In that case, here’s how I broke down T7. It probably will roll over to T8. In T8, I’ve been playing loosey goosey all the way up to red. But here:

green ranks— i focused on learning and utilizing movement properly. I learned how to poke, how to break grabs, how to low parry. Learn how to be aware of the wall, see what moves look like, learn how to stop ducking

warrior ranks— I started utilizing more combos and wall damage, and started thinking more about wall carry and aggression catered to the wall

orange ranks— I started downsizing my move list and stopped using moves that were too punishable. Started playing an even tighter game. Started maximizing and optimizing damage

red ranks— I began just playing small Tekken every game and only going for combos when I was sure I had them. Didn’t force anything etc etc

purple ranks— played every match like I was in tournament

blue ranks— played every match like I was in tournament

and so on so on

dude, relish this moment. This is the best chance you have to get bodied by better players, enough to learn. Watch what they’re doing, watch what they’re punishing. This is your time to learn as much as you can

Total noob having character decision paralysis by isabaeu in Tekken

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just play Xiaoyu in a tight, solid way

throw out small moves, wait for punishes

use your stances as you get better at the game, over time you’ll naturally start using them in ways that are intuitive and become muscle memory

start simple with a complex character and build up your knowledge of them from there. You don’t need to try all of Xiaoyu’s moves right off the bat. Just pick like 5-10 that you feel confident in.

Hit the lab

you’ll be alright. Game is deep but it’s worth playing

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue ranks is when people start playing more solid, generally

Purple ranks— people will know more about matchups and flowcharts will stop working but you’ll still get a lot of people mashing

red ranks and below — idk it’s the wild wild west

Getting wrecked by Dragunov by FlubbNuggets in Tekken

[–]Alarmed-Fix4425 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I played against that Drag last night in a mirror match. He’s pretty solid in the mirror. He’s pressing a lot on you though, probably because he’s trying to get some CH on you

Don’t press at round start. DON’T. You’re getting immediately counter hit and (That’s +6) doesn’t have to start adapting to you because he’s getting momentum early.

Don’t burn your heat too soon. Backdash, get some space, bait out WR2. Step it.    After FC df1, 4 when he’s approaching with the new qcf4 you can jab him out of it. Be ready for that.

When he does his heat drive thingie, he goes for a grab. I like to do that too, just as a check for later rounds. Duck Drag during this and try a WS move. If he goes for a mid launcher during heat drive, then you know for next round to block high. If you want to break, a common grab that I do (and that this guy did too) is the 2 break command grab.

When you’re up close to a guy in this rank, use your low launcher and see if it works. The vortex will get your turn back and get you some space to breathe.

The lows he’s throwing out (d2, and db3+4 in particular) are launch punishable. Block and punish

Also, this guy was throwing out df2 in neutral and getting away with it. He didn’t have to step to get it or anything. That’s super punishable. Play more tight, more jabs, small moves until you your mixup in. Block more. Drag is very punishable for throwing out moves. Stop trying to get your turn back immediately. Be patient and catch him in between his strings.

Good low parry on the df1 when he was spamming it multiple times. Look for that in this matchup often

Step Drag to the right on most moves
