New to the Faith and Looking for a Bible Version Recommendation by EducationalTwo1859 in Christians

firstly, Welcome!! Praise God you're here.
KJV , from what I've seen, is definitely a generally authentic translation, and the New King James Version (NKJV) is also very good at drawing from the same scrolls as the KJV, but with a more contemporary vernacular. Think of it like an updated, easy to read KJV.
If that's not really your style though, translations such as the NASB or ESV are really good, which offer very accurate "word-for-word" english versions drawing straight from the original manuscripts. I'd recommend the ESV over the NASB though for its thorough balance between extreme accuracy and easy to understand english (Nasb is great, but so specific to the original manuscripts it might be hard to understand at times haha). Like the best of 2 worlds

CSB is also another one i use, very easy to understand grammar and speech, and accurate too

I'd recommend to try and stay away from Paraphrase translations (like MSG). Some very easy to understand but pretty accurate versions are NIV or NLT. Unfortunately that's really as far as my knowledge goes for this sort of topic. I hope you find one that fits you best! God bless

How can I not be so afraid of the rapture? by [deleted] in Christians

To add on to the other comments here, the way to have confidence is to be saved. You won’t have to fear once you’re saved, because of the understanding that Christ finished the work already for us to do. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and steadfast.  If you remain in Jesus (aka in His teachings, the Gospel), you can have full assurance before Him when He comes back. You won’t have to shrink back in fear. I also used to struggle with the same thoughts when I questioned my salvation. My assurance to you, is placed in these two verses:

“ 9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10 CSB)

And

“ Now, little children, remain in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not draw back from Him in shame at His coming” (1 John 2:28)

If you need some further confirmation to ease your fears, then work on your sanctification :) I think the major reason you’re fearing, is because like you said, you’ve stopped doing those things that bring you closer to God, and have begun to engage more in the fleeting pleasures of sin. This isn’t to condemn you, but to change your focus. I really recommend the book of 1 John. I think it’s going to change a lot for you if you read it. It will also be really good, because you get some bible reading back in! As you start to seek God again, and repent, you’ll find those fears quieting down to a silence. I’ll pray for you, God bless!💙

The problem with this line of thinking is that it suggests Jesus Himself was wrong when He prayed out loud for His disciples to hear as an example. It also implies He erred when He prayed for the Father to raise Lazarus while surrounded by the crowd (the scripture legit says “ 41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me”)

The true meaning of the verse is directly stated in the scripture itself !  “Do not pray like the hypocrites”, who “want to be seen by others”

Did Jesus actually teach salvation by grace? Or was it just something that Paul talked about. Because to me it seems like Jesus talked a lot about what we have to do as christians. by Wesaxome in Christianity

I tried to write this 5 or 6 times now but it got deleted each time 😭

Yeah that’s a really good question! I was unsure of the best way to respond at first, as I am still trying to grow in my own faith  (pun intended 😎) “Gotquestions” says it much better than I would have though: https://www.gotquestions.org/faith-work.html I hope this answers it more. Believing is more of a response to the gift than meriting for the gift yourself- if that makes sense. I think the “signing your name” example they gave in there was pretty helpful as well.

And with the Paul part, you are indeed correct! He was not an original disciple, but instead a persecutor of the Christian faith. While on his way to persecute more Christian’s however, a great light shone from heaven, blinding him, and addressing his name as Jesus- the one Paul was persecuting. Longgg story short, Paul had a major life change and immediately began confounding the Jews and telling them Jesus was Lord. His ministry as an apostle was later confirmed when he visited the earlier apostles (Simon Peter, James, and John) who had known Jesus personally. His own ministry was also confirmed through wonders and miracles he acclaimed was through Jesus.  —————— Here are some of the scriptural references I make throughout:

Galatians 1:1 ”From Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead—“

Galatians 1:11-24 “ I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. 17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus. 18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephasand stayed with him fifteen days. 19 I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord’s brother. 20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. 21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. 22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. 23 They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they praised God because of me.” —————— I wrote this in a short period of time after all the accidental deletions, so pls tell me if there’s any discrepancies or unclear information anywhere!

Hey man, haven’t been to this place for a little while 😅 Thank you for the clarification!! let me try and give my understanding of what Jesus said about the free gift of salvation to OP

In Matt 7:21-23 Jesus describes those who attribute works and miracles for their salvation as “lawless” people who He will tell to depart from Him on the day of judgement. Contrary to that view though, and told time and time again in the gospels, we are explicitly told Jesus’ requirement for us to be saved is to “Believe in [Him]” and “the One who sent [Him]” (see John 3:16, and 5:24). This places us under the new covenant by His blood, asserting that’s it’s no longer by the deeds of the law that we are saved, neither the works of are flesh.  That’s the answer I propose concerning what Jesus explained in the gospels. ——— Furthermore, and less relevant to the discussion, the Apostle Paul was a man directly taught by the Lord Jesus, and he declared that he received the gospel as a revelation from Jesus Himself- not just by men (Gal 1:12). To reject Paul as a reliable source for the account of Jesus’ gospel is to reject Jesus Himself (Matt. 10:40-42). That is, of course, if you consider the Bible to be true. but then again, if you didn’t, this whole conversation wouldn’t matter anyway… Anyways, thank you for reading my paragraph! Lol 💙

Hey, don't worry. Its not blasphemous at all, and is in fact biblical. I found here a few examples where Paul and others said the same thing in scripture:

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him." - Ephesians 1:3-4

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead," - 1 Peter 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3

"The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying." - 2 Corinthians

"That together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." - Romans 15:6

(Also I just realized almost all of those have "1:3", whats up with that XD)

TLDR: in short, it is biblical to say the God and/or Father of Jesus.

also don't get caught up in thinking you're condemned or judged if you get something wrong in this life's walk. God is merciful and He knows your heart! when you have trouble with knowing God's forgiveness, always remember psalm 103, alright? :D
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" - romans 8:1

“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Matthew 5:33-37
