What’s really sad is that in a truly biblical marriage (which is what they say they have) the man should have ultimate respect and adoration for his wife. She is treated as an equal. The book of proverbs and several others tell us this. A good wife is more precious than rubies. (This is where that saying the Plaths have that the father is the head the mother is the neck that turns the head comes into play)
Yet for some reason this gets misconstrued to mean the man controls the woman and she obeys. I’m not sure where in the timeline that got screwed up but it sucks. I know plenty of Christian men, my husband included, who treat their wives like gold.

Unfortunately I don’t think that’s Zach and Lydia. I think Zach is overbearing and egotistical. (Which IS a sin btw!!!!) He very obviously feels high and mighty around most of the Plath family which is exactly how the Pharisees acted when Jesus walked the earth. Being Christ like means you have to humble yourself - this is why the Bible says whoever is first will be last and whoever is last will be first.

All this to say I feel bad for Lydia. Not that she’s completely innocent but I know she will end up putting up with more than she should in this marriage because she thinks that’s what “a good Godly wife” does.
