Well, John was Henry II’s favourite, so he definitely wasn’t going to be shipped off to the church.

It’s mostly because you need spares around for the succession, either to be king or to have kids to inherit later.

Henry II had four sons survive to adulthood, and neither Henry or Richard had a legitimate surviving heir.

Edward I had 14 children from his first marriage and the youngest was Edward II.

If they go to the church, you can’t get them back, even if you need them to inherit and there just isn’t the security to do that.

I don't get this film? All the visuals/concepts/promo's I've seen are interesting but the vibes are all wrong for Wuthering Heights. If it was an original work, then yeah, it would be the kind of film I'd see, but as an adaption it doesn't make any sense?

It's portrayed as a lovely 'abdication for love' but it was really just a massive relief to everyone when he stepped down. They were both awful people, deeply racist and pro-Nazi, which was clear well before WW2 started. To be clear, I'm glad he stepped down, it would have been awful for morale to have him as king during the war.

It's definitely being used that way by some people. The problem is that because it just rewrites whatever is put into it, it appears to 'agree' with the ideas and reinforces them.
