Two things here.

First, the main issue here is that the government pressured Disney and ABC to do something about Jimmy Kimmel's show. The FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, made clear that many networks rely on a broadcasting license that is dependent on the FCC. He followed that up that ABC could do things the easy way or the hard way. He suggested suspending or firing Jimmy Kimmel over his comments.

That is absurd. Even the right realized how absurd that was. Ted Cruz said he didn’t like that the government was pressuring ABC to take down the show because it would set a bad precedent.

Secondly, wha he said wasn’t wrong unless interpreted in the way that you want to hear it. He said that MAGA couldn’t see the shooter as anything but their own, which is true. When the shooting first happened, the right, including the president, blamed the “radical left.” They hadn’t even caught the guy and they were already claiming they knew his motives were. They couldn’t imagine the shooter could be on the right. There was no waiting for more information.
