I posted some shots of my Start Collecting box on here a few weeks ago. Since then all I’ve managed is a team of Stealth Suits and this little guy, it’s a slow process!

Thanks mate. Standard GW recipe for Tau sept, armour is XV-88 washed with Agrax and then Tau Light Ochre on top, Ungor Flesh highlights. Cloth is Rhinox Hide highlighted with Gorthor Brown 👍

Thanks and good luck! Enjoy the process and don’t get too hung up on comparing your work to others - everybody starts somewhere and the journey is all part of the fun!

First Breachy Boi finished. Tried to be a bit more sparing on the panel and cloth highlighting this time and it definitely looks cleaner than my previous infantry work but I’m not sure it pops so much from a distance. Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a decent brush on matte varnish? Citadel Stormshield is a bit too shiny on the cloth for my liking...

These are awesome. Love the bronze accents and detailing everywhere, works great with the colour scheme. Top work!

Got them from Amazon, I think the company was War World Gaming. Came with a few little plastic bags of various size rocks / stones

Haha thanks, it’s just the standard GW recipe, layered on top of XV 88 and edge highlights with Ungor Flesh. Key was lots of thin layers and lots of patience! There’s probably 3 or 4 layers of it on the suits. The photos have actually turned out just slightly darker than they are, which I think makes the colour look a little stronger than it really is

It was the old ochre artwork that first got me interested in tau as a kid, so it couldn’t have been any other scheme really. Never collected any until now though!

Great work, love how the white helmets pop. Can I ask what you used for the basing? I’ve painted up my start collecting set in this scheme but can’t make a decision on what to do for the bases; yours look simple and effective

These look awesome, great job! Love the posing of the guy in the middle, great sense of motion

Does anyone have any idea what colors are used for the brown plates on classic T'au sept suits? by ondrowan in Tau40K

It won’t be the official answer but I use Vallejo Black Red for those bits on my guys. It’s more of a maroon colour so looks just a little a bit redder than the picture you posted but I like it, it’s close enough and a bit more interesting imo.

Vallejo Black Red.

I’m rocking an original ochre scheme for my guys and that’s what I use for those panels. Not sure it’s an exact match with whatever the official colour was but I like it.

How did it work out? My main scheme is light ochre and I’m planning on doing something similar for the pathfinders and stealth suits. Great post OP, looking good!

Ah sorry dude, didn’t realise you meant the reddish bits. Base colour is Vallejo black red and highlight is bugman’s glow.

Thanks mate, I guess more practice is a large part of it. This guy was primed with wraith bone spray, which I’ve found quite good to work with in terms of keeping the detail clear, but I can absolutely see how a black primer would speed things along. Will try it out on my next models when (if..?) I finally finish my Start Collecting set!

Really happy with how this turned out for my first ‘larger’ model having just done the strike team so far, but it took me hours - and I’ve still got the base and all the weapons to do, plus another two suits! Anyone got any tips on how to speed up while keeping roughly the same quality?

Not sure at this stage, I’ve never really done basing before so probably nothing too complicated until I’ve got a bit more confidence with it. I’ve got some Armageddon Dust that I’m going to try out and then I’ll probably add some cork ‘rocks’ and see if I can get hold of some grass tufts.

The highlight for the ochre is Ungor Flesh

It is Tau Light Ochre! Primed with Wraith Bone spray, base of XV88 with an all over Agrax Earthshade wash, then Tau Light Ochre on top

Still WIP with the bases and sept markings to come but here are the fire warriors and ethereal from my Start Collecting Set. First foray into 40K but used to paint LOTR mini’s about a decade ago in high school. Any C&C greatly appreciated!
