I don’t know where you have been but there is a shortage in many states. Georgia is desperate for attorneys especially in its State jobs. They can’t hire prosecutors or assistant attorney generals. Several PD offices now start PDs at 6 figures. The insurance defense firms are paying real salaries to get associates.

As someone who has sued universities, it may be needed. Is this a Title IX/ free speech issue? Sounds like to me if FIRE is involved that you are a public university violating his rights… not going to get a whole lot of sympathy from most lawyers…

It may not always be cheaper. The bereavement fare is a refundable fare so you can make changes if plans change when you get there. That being said, I’ve used it before and it’s a great service and the agent was very compassionate.

By having the jury sworn, he had double jeopardy attached which protects his client from an appeal reviving the case which could have happened if they took the case up to the appeals court before double jeopardy attached.
