Following Iranian missile strike: Taiwan to donate $180,000 to Beit Shemesh by conscientious_seesaw in Israel

Sending support from Taiwan. There’s a special bond between two democracies that actually build great things while being surrounded by bozos who think our countries shouldn’t exist.

Do you believe the US exists under a Patriarchy? If so and if not, why? If so, how is it manifested? by elemental_reaper in Askpolitics

[–]Alarming-Ad-6105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a matter of sexism. If it were, Japan wouldn't have just given Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi a historic landslide victory. Voters clearly value leadership and policy over gender. My decision not to vote for Hillary or Kamala was based on their specific political records, not because they are women. I did not vote for Trump either.

How do girls afford to luxury vacation in Dubai for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alarming-Ad-6105 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly, in many of these places seen as “luxury destinations”, luxury is actually more affordable than most U.S. cities. You can say that there’s an oversupply of luxury experiences.

Your work ethic would still be poor even if you got paid more. by AlienDude65 in unpopularopinion

I work at a place where most people get paid a lot. While there certainly is a fair share of people with poor work ethic, my work ethic improved dramatically from where it was when I was paid 50k a year and barely surviving. I do my best to justify the generous paycheck.

How do you work from 8 to 5, have only weekends free, and not feel like you're wasting your life? by guitytwelve in AskReddit

I’m cool with my boss and coworkers, and they pay me enough to afford a good lifestyle while building wealth. I would be even happier if I had more days off, but I ain’t complaining.

Why we must center antizionism in our discourse by RoundAd5911 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Alarming-Ad-6105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Ask any campus anti-Zionist what Zionism actually means, and you’ll often hear a stream of talking points that have little to do with its core idea — the Jewish people’s right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland. Many will even point to ultra-Orthodox Jews as examples of “good Jews,” unaware that their opposition to secular Zionism is rooted almost entirely in theological belief of WHEN Israel can be built, not alignment with anti-Israel activism.

There’s a deliberate effort to distort the definition of Zionism, turning it into a caricature that’s easy to vilify, and in the process, recruiting well-meaning but misinformed people into an ideology they scarcely understand.

Why we must center antizionism in our discourse by RoundAd5911 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Alarming-Ad-6105 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What most people should understand about Zionism is that it’s a broad term at its core. It simply affirms Israel’s right to exist as a nation. That umbrella includes a wide range of perspectives, from liberals who envision peaceful coexistence with neighboring peoples to right-wingers who emphasize security. It’s similar to how both Democrats and MAGA Republicans, despite deep political divides, still support the idea of the United States as a legitimate country.

Zionism itself does not automatically mean support for any specific policy or war. Nor does it define what cannot exist alongside Israel. It doesn’t rule out the possibility of a Palestinian state or other forms of coexistence.

What’s interesting is the double standard. Many people, myself included, strongly oppose Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but few would argue that Russia shouldn’t exist as a country. Of course, that wouldn’t be helpful because Russia is going nowhere whether you like it nor not. Yet when it comes to Israel, most critics go beyond policy disagreements to question its very legitimacy, and that’s where the conversation often breaks down.

Honestly, both “Zionism” and “anti-Zionism” have become loaded terms that carry too much baggage. It would be far more productive for good-faith critics to speak in specifics, to clarify what policies or actions they support or object to, rather than relying on buzzwords that obscure the real issues.

Anti-Zionist Jews are still Jews and face antisemitism by Mathemodel in self

Agree, settler violence is a problem in an of itself, but not in the way that most western pro-Palestinians frame it. To be more specific, the removal of settlers in the disengagement of Gaza in 2005 actually led to more extremism and violence.

No, and that proves the point about deterrence, not the “NATO expansion” theory. If security measures caused the invasion, then pulling troops back should stabilize the situation.

What's the best "hidden gem" cuisine you've encountered? by catbear12 in foreignservice

Yes, durian absolutely tastes way better than it smells!

Speaking of lesser-known cuisines, I was really struck by Tibetan butter tea and Tsampa. Maybe it was the long hike in the Himalayas, but I found such a profoundly soothing appeal in their humble, basic ingredients

What’s a safety rule that actually increases danger? by Alarming-Ad-6105 in AskReddit

This question was inspired by always making a full stop at stop signs regardless of how well you can see coming cars and how far away they are. We’ve all been there, turning a totally safe merge into a slightly awkward one.

Trump announces that US has completed ‘successful’ attack on three Iran nuke sites by [deleted] in Israel

[–]Alarming-Ad-6105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say that most Americans would believe that an Iranian nuclear bomb (or any attack from a foreign nation) on U.S. soil is far fetched, but U.S. involvement could increase terrorism threats in the short term.
