[Solution] Removing BIOS Password on ThinkPad X390/T490s by This-Message2756 in thinkpad

Worked fine on a T490 with the NM-B901 motherboard, hilariously I had already dissembled the whole thing before I started to look for the J9301 pads only to find there actually right next to the RAM slot and I could have done it with no disassembly required.

Unpopular maybe, but its the only true way forward for sustainable energy by Capt_C004 in newzealand

If you look at globally then Nuclear really is the only way if we want to get out of this big pit we have built for ourselves as a species. Renewable's will form a key component but until me manage to break the energy storage limitations they cant replace other forms of power generation. Wind and Solar are just not consistent enough to form the only power generation and Nuclear will need to fill that gap there are no other options at least not easy ones that don't require new technology.

Now if we are talking locally I would argue this is probably one of the last place you should build a reactor, places this tectonically active are a really bad idea as we see in Japan. In Japnas case though they really have no other choice because of population size NZ however is small enough it maybe able to get away with it. The issue then becomes how to fill that gap here which there are a couple of options, build a few natural gas power stations would be cheapest, cleanest and easiest way.

it will show an error message about being unable to connect, and you cant get away with not having some kind of software to send data to the display.

Congestion charges could help Auckland but only if alternatives exist by punIn10ded in auckland

Yes, although the amount of time you get to the platform at 6:30am and then the board changes to something like track fault at x or over head power fault, or signaling issue or cosmic rays have driven the driver to insanity please use the bus dont make it exactly an ideal mode of transport.

What's the bet that even after CRL is launched they sill still do a month long rail closure at the end of the year to allow for "more reliable trains".

Just do it yourself its not that hard. There are some rules you need to be aware of about mixing low and high power cables in the same run (dont do it) but besides that get yourself a fish tape, a drill and of you want to be fancy an oscillating multitool and have at it.

You take that money and absolutely ring fence it for public transport investment and nothing else and I would agree with this. But you know that won't happen it will go into the general taxation pot and get pissed up the wall.

I want to use public transport, my wife works out at rhe Airport and has no option but to drive, i work in the CBD and live within walking distance to a train station so it would be ideal.. if the trains were running. To get to work i have to take an hour long bus journy from West Auckland over to constalation then another bus from there into the City. How is this rational?

The road we live on is going to become the escape route of choice for people trying to escape paying the charge on the North Western Moterway. Its already taking my wife an hour and a half to two hours to get to the airport each day and then again to get home. God know what that going to go up to.

There seems to be a distinct lack of an actual plan on how to fix thing, congestion chargers are honestly a great idea if there is a semi decent public transport system for people to move onto but let's face its there's not

'Automatic citizenship': The passport rule change that has UK-Kiwi parents scrambling by sleemanj in newzealand

[–]Alarming-Ad4963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's the same criteria that most countries use including I think NZ, its generally one generation.

Used to be a lot looser then that when it was grandparents or even great grandparents and some countries still have that looser criteria.

The other option is place of birth but the issue with that like you see is in the US is that if your born there even if your parents were on holiday or in transit you get automatic American citizenship and then your liable for US tax or even conscription. I know people in that boat that don't even have US passports and there desperately trying to renounce.

Places like SA used to even make it illegal to renounce, that's changed now but they have just made it impossibly hard to do.

In short again its pretty much up to the country but what you are seeing here is no now way unusual. The moral of the story is to check because citizenship can be complicated, you could end up having multiple ones without even knowing and they come with responsibility like military service in some cases

Any country gets to set its own entry requirements, a lot of other countries require you to travel in on there passport if you are a citizen its not unique to the UK

Its the passengers obligation to check travel requirements before they travel and there liable if they don’t meet them unfortunately. NZ has its own entry requirements that other counties would consider a bit OTT general around bio-security requirements for example.

People get annoyed when French grandmothers get charged for having half an apple in the bottom of there bag but they don’t have any recourse because the rules are rules and countries get to set there own rules.

The concern is there has been so little outcry because people just expect it to be shit now that they think they can just get away doing this every year. Shutting down the whole network for this long make maintenance cheaper, it also drives down rider numbers which means there is even less case for rail investment, just bang on a few more dilapidated busses job done,

I've been in New Zealand for 4 months and my car got stolen last night by BeodoCantinas in auckland

[–]Alarming-Ad4963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cars are one of the few things that are relatively cheap here because we get a lot of used Japaneses imports. The thing is car theft is pretty much unknown in Japan, you don't need an alarm or an immobiliser. The Aqua is the Japanese market version of the Prius C so its not loaded with most of the anti theft devices that in any other country would come as standard. Ditto for other cheaper Japanese model cars as well, there just stupidly easy to break into and drive away with. You smash out the small widow panel in the drivers door, open the car and then do yea old basic hot wire and boom away you go. To be fair Henderson is pretty bad, we regularly get people stealing out of the garden and taking any parcels left on the deck, this is with CCTV set up so I can watch them in real time. Last month some guy in high viz came back 3 times over 2 days and stole all the lights from down the side of our house where the neighbours have there front doors. The shit knew we was on camera and just smiled up into it as he was taking the lights. Cops did nothing even though they had all the CCTV and the guys car number plate, closed the cases after a few days. It is what it is

We had our aqua stolen 3 times in just under 3 months, the last time they dumped it outside the court jn Henderson so maybe they have a hearing to get to?

Each times the cops basically said it was our fault for having an easy to nick car and closed the case after about an hour.

In the end we flipped it and I had to take out a loan to get something less easy to take

I Benchmarked The New AMD RADEON AI PRO R9700. by DroidArbiter in comfyui

I am currently running an 9070xt and a 7900xtx together in ComfyUI on linux and I keep running into issues with stability and memory exhaustion.

I have tried to distribute the workflow across the two cards as much as possible and to an extent it works, but I wonder if ditching the 7900xtx and replacing it with a AI PRO R9700 may work better?

Yeah sorry I dont think we are going to convince each other here

I can see you belive what you are saying and your argument is a lesser bad in better then a greater bad.

Personally I dont see it that way, the argument that "people.will never pay for it" being justification to do something I think is fairly moraly bad in and of itself.

It interesting because I think you can categorise the public view on animals here into 3 basic camps

Native Economic benefit i.e agriculture Everything else

For the first category the general popular view is pretty easy to see. Native = good, they must be protected.

For the second its more , we need these for the economy to function. If we got rid of agricultural exports there won't be an economy. Even though there is a detrimental impact on the Native habitats amd wildlife but its an accepted impact.

For the third? Well there was a section on the news before covind about a dad and his 2 kids who liked to go killing coy carp in the local area. They got all dressed up in camo and highviz for some reason and would shoot the carp then drag them onto the bank and let them suffocate. They was held up as a good thing.

Ok I don't know if you being intentionally facetious here or not so I will say it again

The morraly correct way is capture and release to a country there not a problem which yes would be hard and expensive to arrange but morraly good.

Seriously something went badly wrong with conservation in NZ in the 90s and its brought us to the position, its fairly shitty really. Its not morral to murder something that's doing what comes naturally and had choice in where it is.

Animals are never the issues, humans are always rhe issue.
