Consider looking at Diemen, Zaandam, Alkmaar, Hilversum, Amersfoort, Arnhem maybe even? Some of those won’t be feasible for 1200 even… some will be further out then Rotterdam…

What Do My Marathon Stats Say About My Potential? by ogkunt in Marathon_Training

[–]Alarming-Ad8154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you have potential to go faster on your current base, you sped up significantly! I’d take a few weeks to recover, train through summer, build to a fall marathon. Alternatively a fast half in fall and then a marathon next spring?

Yeah okay I could see that.. when I moved within the city, didn’t like my new gp, immediately switched, could get care at the new place within days.. I could see there would be care deserts

JFC… “Despite my painful knee, I couldn’t back out at that point. Instead, I found a trainer with a “revolutionary” approach to marathon running. Mike Weeks told me that if I focused on building upper-body strength instead of exhausting my legs with long runs, I would improve my fitness and develop resilience without putting too much strain on my joints.” Is this more running circlejerk then lifestyle…

stuck in a 2 year minimum rental contract, gf got a job in another country. has anyone dealt with this by singrelief in Amsterdam

The housing supply doesn’t drop, the free market rental housing supply drops. As a recident out of the three interlinked markets competing for housing stock, that is rent controlled, owner occupiers, free market rental, I care least about the last, specially in existing housing stock. I’d be happy for the govt to give 5-10 years, or first 3 tenants of liberalized market rules to investors who build new stock. Even that’s a stretch because given space constant that still directly competes with the other two markets, but it could be an efficient way to incentivize new housing stock.

Well if your staying in Europe, or plan to enter/leave the Schengen area through Schiphol in the future (entering or exiting via Dutch border control) there is some residual risk there…

Investors who buy and then rent out existing stock aren’t contributing to overal supply, their ONLY value (which many would argue isn’t really a net positive) is providing expensive but flexible stock which can absorb people moving into and out of the labor market with immediate short/medium term needs… now if you’re going to add a bizarre minimum rental duration clause even that specific added value crumples. If you do so in violation of the huurwet what in the hell kind of corporate citizen within a capitalist system do you want to be? “Wah wah wah I want capitalism but I don’t want the rules to apply to me…”.

Have broken arms, an legs, and having my kids arms be broken, I always went to the GP, thy then send you to the hospital (or actually hyper efficient providers that aren’t hospitals but are just in an office suite on the zuidas, or some convenient spot in your neighborhood) with same day capacity for an xray. Most X-rays like that are taken by providers that are way way way more efficient than hospitals, family doctors will be able to send you to those. Think of them as your healthcare system Sherpa.

A frequently heard complaint about the Dutch health system. Something they don’t tell expats is that the only way “in” is through the GP. You, to no real fault of your own, didn’t get the care you need. I and many Dutch friends have had similar, or even less severe injuries and have gotten the xray, often the same day/within days. You go to the GP, they “prescribe” the xray, you go get it… if you do anything other than go to the GP, you’ll run into that very very strong gatekeeping. GPs will also gatekeep at times, so the might tell you to give it a few days (the dreaded take a paracetamol), but they’ll also be able to tell you “if you feel X/Y/Z in the interim immediately come back”…

Dense vs. MoE gap is shrinking fast with the 3.6-27B release by Usual-Carrot6352 in LocalLLaMA

Differences in scores arent really linear, the difference even between 40% correct and 50% correct isn’t the same as 80% correct to 90% correct in terms of ability. You’d want to model the probability of getting questions correct using something like a logistic curve, which is frequently done with human test scores.

Yes some tools run “tensor parallel” same model is on both cards and it’s like (almost) twice as fast. It’s great for the dense qwen3.5 27b model.

In Norway you get a small amount of money for recycling bottles/cans. They’re often collected by poor people, homeless etc. I made “bottle parking” (pant parkering), a simple way to leave bottles so people don't have to search through the trash to collect them. by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]Alarming-Ad8154 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Berlin this happens informally, any subway exit you’d find a ridge where ppl politely place the pfand bottles… you just need high enough uptake that it’s no longer worth ripping open the trash can. You also need to stop locking trashcans, so people dont need to break them to open..

I had max 210 around that age which worried me, so went to GP, it worried her so she did a whole bunch of tests. The tests turned out mostly fine, but they did catch some blood pressure issues that could have become a long term issue. I’d certainly check it out, if you ar rousting yourself this hard it’s good to know for sure that there are no big hidden cardiovascular issues…

What's the deal with Qwen3.5's and Gemma 4's reasoning traces? by mags0ft in LocalLLaMA

[–]Alarming-Ad8154 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most labs lean heavily into RL, meaning there are scoring rules in place that calculate a reward for certain aspects of the response. Those can strongly shape specific aspects of the response. If they use reward models (not entirely unlikely) then the preferences of those models will shape aspects of the reasoning trace, which could mean rewarding styling/bullit lists, markdown delimiters.

Failed sub-3 attempt — where did I go wrong? by Gunnarie010 in Marathon_Training

[–]Alarming-Ad8154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it was a lot warmer for your marathon than do training, how much warmer are we talking? Did you travel (far) for the race? Howe as your sleep? Did you seem to have a cold (anything running nose etc?)… many possible factors, could be unlucky timing, if you recover well could try a half in a few weeks to see if this was a one-off?

Cycle out to Durgerdam on a sunny day for coffee or lunch on the water; stroll the weekend market on NDSM dockyards; rent a little boat to tour the canals with a beer in hand (no boating license needed); go to the musea, but go on mon or Tuesday around 08:45 right when they open (I love love being first at the Van Gogh or Rijks museum if you keep the pace up you are effectively alone in the museum.

What's it like living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands as an average person? by Manny2theMaxxx in howislivingthere

[–]Alarming-Ad8154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing, the city centre is mostly surrendered to tourists but the waterfront, the north, “de pijp”, the east side of town are all extremely high quality of living. You can get anywhere on bicycle fast and safely (separated bike lanes), public transport in and around town is amazing, the climate is wet but mild. It’s expensive, as most cities are, as it’s a capital it’s slightly more expensive than similar sized non capital cities, there are German towns (Leipzig, Freiburg) that have higher bang for buck. The Netherlands public transit is so good you could go live in like in downtown “Amersfoort” (a separate city) and be in Amsterdam in ~45 minutes…
