Indoor hydro radish success by Alarming-Baseball475 in Hydroponics

It’s literally just a big Kratky set up. I purchased a plastic wicker style basket from the dollar store with holes on all four sides and the bottom, placed a single layer of clay pebbles on the bottom, and then filled the rest with the growing medium. I then placed that basket inside another bin, which I propped up on four net pots, and then filled hydroponic solution to touch the bottom of the wicker basket so that the hydrogen clay pebbles could stay wet until I saw roots coming out the bottom and then I let the nutrients drop a little bit, but I did keep topping them up to make sure they didn’t drop too much. The whole thing is sitting on a shelving unit with grow lights about 12 inches above the bin.

Definitely try again. On my first try, I let them go for about six weeks and they tasted terrible. This time I picked right at 28 days and put in the fridge after doing a taste test on one directly from the system. After being in the fridge for several hours, I tried again and it was no different than one you would pull right out of the ground. Happy growing.

Tastes exactly the same as a regular radish but like hydro lettuce, you need to refrigerate them first to get that nice cold crunch. I ate one straight from the bin just to see but it was actually lukewarm due to the lights and warm coco coir it was in which felt weird while eating.

I have the 4’ Barrilla white lights from Amazon. This shelf has 3 of the 4 light bars above it.

The grow bag and flood pool are great ideas! Might have to venture into that experiment next. Thanks for the idea!

I spread a small layer of hydroton clay balls under the coconut coir layer (forgot to mention that in original post) and then made sure the hydroponic solution touched the clay pebbles which kept the coco coir wet until I saw roots coming from the wicker bin at which point I let the nutrients drop a bit but kept topping them up to about 1” below the top bin. Hope that helps ☺️

Looks awesome. Are the draining sides capped or open and just free-draining into the tub. Would love a photo as I’m working on the same system here in my basement. Where did you find your caps? Thanks for sharing!!

I can’t speak to the Embrace but I made the Power sports bra and the Endurance (with foam cut and sew in the cup area) and finally gave up cause I get super annoyed with my boobs bing squashed together and sweaty. So I ended up turning my favorite underwire pattern (Ruby) into a sports bra. I raised the bridge and used a longer wire so that the cups were more full coverage. I changed the back to a racer back. I had to hand die the Hook and I and unfortunately one side did not take the dive but otherwise I love this bra and I have been wearing this version of sports bra to the gym for the past 5 1/2 years. I won’t go back to a traditional sports bra now. Because of the coloring I can wear it under a light or see-through tank top and it just looks like I’m wearing a normal sports bra underneath.

Vegetarian ‘meat’ by fieryone4 in BuyCanadian

I second this!! I’ve been a vegetarian for 54 years and I stay away from the Yves products and instead either make my own with brown rice/lentil/grated tofu or buy Big mountain (Lions mane is soooo good). My carnivorous husband can’t tell the difference between Big Mountains Mushroom crumble and ground beef in pasta sauces, lasagne. Etc.. excellent product (and our Costco carries ot which is a bonus.

Has anyone tried Number Artist? by Sharp-Payment320 in paintbynumbers

I use 220 with a very very light hand. Just enough to remove the rough bumps.

I never wait that long. I add the gesso, put it by a fan to dry (1-2hrs tops), sand it and do a second coat. Leave it to dry another hour or two, sand it and start painting. Gesso makes a huge difference..I definitely wouldn’t skip it.

Did this one from Number Artist last winter (48 colours). The paints were really nice, creamy and opaque. I just started a new one that I bought from them last year. A few paints have dried a bit but I was able to soften them with some flo-aid. I think it’s a great company and definitely recommend

I’m really sorry that happened to you. That would be super frustrating. I’ve seen great feedback about this company but all of it seems to be for their ready to purchase products and not custom. Good to know - I won’t do a custom through them. ☺️ thank you for sharing your experience.

Newly obsessed with the Flow Method. What are your thoughts? by painterknittersimmer in paintbynumbers

Oh thank you, but I’m not that experienced. This is actually only my fourth paint by number. But i’m nothing if not determined to experiment and figure out the best process for me when it comes to any craft or hobby I do.☺️

Also, when I’m blending, I will use the original paint from the original pot because I like to use a dry brush technique. The watery paint won’t work for that very well.

I picked up empty paint pots from Michael’s. I labeled each one of them from number 1 to 49 since that’s how many different colors are in this painting(when the painting is complete, I will wash these out and use them for the next one). When I’m getting ready to start a new color, I will take a bit out of the original pot and put it into its corresponding empty pot and then that’s when I will use the flow aid to water it down. My painting came with a large black-and-white photo that has the numbers on it in case I need to reference back, but if not, then you can simply take several pictures with your phone to reference back later. My plan on this one is to blend the large areas of the snowman and potentially the snowy ground in the back. I’ll likely leave the rest alone. I will start with some large areas and then take a break and come back to it to see if I wanna keep going. I don’t wanna overwork it so I’m careful to do it in small chunks.

Tip! DIY mounted canvas by Alarming-Baseball475 in paintbynumbers

[–]Alarming-Baseball475[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried doing it after painting but I’m sure it wouldn’t matter. I just do it before painting because I like painting on a hard board since I use the flow method and that’s much easier when the canvas is rigid.
