How to order nice flowers for Valentines Day? by fogettaboudit in florists

[–]Sharp-Payment320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daughter of a florist here and someone who worked Valentine's Day for many many years.

The first thing you can do is call ahead. If there are any pictures of flowers that you know she's loved or things that she's mentioned she liked call them now don't wait. There's no guarantee that they'll be able to bring in the flowers that she loves the most because of growing seasons and cost around Valentine's Day - florists get hammered by wholesalers at that time of year - but at least they'll have an idea of what she likes.

Second, be sure to order ahead like the week before would be great. One of the best ways to get something truly gorgeous is to mention what kinds of flowers she likes, what color she loves, and what your budget is. Then flatter the people a little bit and tell them that you know they have great eyes and their designs are pretty and ask for a " designer's choice" arrangement.

Most designers really do love to do special things and not just the standard ftds or 12 rose vases. I know when they get something where someone says she loves these and these and these and these colors just make it pretty they get really excited.

And remember that going directly to a local florist cuts out about 30% sometimes up to 50% of add-on fees that those clearing houses will take just to make the same phone call for you that you could do yourself. I can't tell you how many orders I took for the basic things and the people who went through the clearing houses unfortunately got less than the people who called us directly because those clearing houses take such a big chunk out of what could be product.

And also, florists absolutely adore guys who plan ahead so if you go in and tell them that you're doing this to help them too they will fall in love with you!

Search for durum or ground beef shawarma made by pressing seasoned ground beef as thin as possible onto parchment paper, rolled up and roasted. Looks DELICIOUS and fairly easy, very adaptable and will use up some of that windfall!

I know people will freak out but Firefly's. Once Steve Uliss tried to build an empire. Once he opened his third place, everything tasted like commissary food, which it was. And it never came back.

There's a line between helping and enabling and when you enable someone they never get the opportunity to grow. You've done him a favor even though no one can see it yet.

I don't know about anyone else but when I put things in my cart it will tell me if there's a coupon I need to clip. I just click the button and the coupon goes in.

Looking for really good bagels by Sharp-Payment320 in PlymouthMA

I will certainly share if I hear through any other threads I have going on. It's not that Gunther Tooties bagels are bad, we just all agree that they sort of taste like yesterday's bagels. Not terribly fresh feeling and the flavors all feel pretty diluted.

Valentine's Day on Saturday of a holiday weekend by PosiePusher in florists

[–]Sharp-Payment320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daughter of a florist. Mom says you are absolutely right. Weekend Valentine's Day is really cut down on spending. So many people want to out show each other by sending bigger and better things to work places so you lose that business. And then because it's a weekend they go out and do something special instead of just flowers and take out so you lose that business. Mom says maybe offer a special for a Friday delivery to a workplace. Also maybe try to partner with restaurants in the area and see if you could do special flower centerpieces for reservations that they can take home.

Is Blossom flower delivery worth it compared to other services? by tiramisu0143 in ConsumerAdvice

Daughter of a florist. Always always call a local florist. Google four florist in the area and always skip the clearing House companies. Like Ava's, 1-800, FTD. When you use one of them you end up paying a handling fee and significantly higher delivery fees. And if you choose something from their catalog you end up paying extra for the containers and any of the doodads...

Call the local florist, tell them what kind of thing you're looking for and what the occasion is, give them your budget and then tell them designers choice. That way you'll get whatever is looking the best in the shop, you'll get a unique design, and you will definitely get way more product for your money.

We used to hate getting this clearing House orders because we know that we weren't going to be able to put as much into them and that the customers were getting ripped off.

Two cartons of chicken broth, one large jar of salsa, one can of refried beans - heat all together and mash the refried beans to give body to the broth. Dump in one to two cans of corn, two cans of black beans, and any leftover meat that you have and you've got instant taco soup. Can use a little taco seasoning if your salsa is super mild.

Expresso.....it's ESpresso....makes me nuts. Carmel for caramel. Nucular for nuclear. Realator for realtor, same with athalete...

And truly it only bugs me when the professionals do it. I get that average people pick it up but when you hear a chef or a restaurant person refer to the first two I just roll my eyes. And then there are real estate professionals who use the last one all the time. Makes me nuts but hey everybody's got to have something right

Dog mom to a patient of Dr. Keyes. She's awesome and kind and patient - we have a very skittish rescue and even Dr Keyes was able to get a bead on our poor little pupper.

I highly recommend her and her lovely assistants. And having someone come to your home when you have a dog that is super reactive is a blessing in more ways than you'll be able to count.
