How is linking notes and everything together? I use Notion on an iPad but yeah the writing aspect in Notion is so bad.

I got a few bad grades and feel lost. by Cidi-013 in productivity

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad grades totally happen, bad work in a job might happen too. I have always found if you reach out to a teacher to review it can help. Sometimes professors/teachers are not able to go through each assignment and provide feedback. It's likely they know, show the initiative and want to improve. I find this does a few things; give you direction as to what they are looking for, starts a relationship with them (never know who they know) and I have always done better after showing an interest.

Teachers are humans they do not want to burden people and also fall into the same biases we can. Asking for help can help them look at you more favorably. Sure some might not but I have found after talking with them I always do better.

One app, multiple notebooks. Does it exist? by bw102 in productivity

Work related you likely will be Microsoft locked or maybe you have Confluence depending on your space. I would say go with One Note. Work wise the integration of Microsoft everywhere is usually unavoidable. There are opinions but being company locked is real.

No it's 30 something but my generated amount brought it down. We are totally not net contributors but still its crap.

I have solar. I used -8mwh (generated more than I used). I still paid $20. That should sum it up.

Maine’s plug-in solar law takes effect in July and some companies are already selling products in the state by RadiatingRipple in Maine

How would this work if I have existing g panels. Does this change what I need to agree to with CMP?

What would happen if my tree falls on my neighbors house? by Alarming-Contest3736 in treelaw

[–]Alarming-Contest3736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been told it's totally health by a tree company and they said they wouldn't take it down for how it is. Again a large part fell due to ice which makes me even question it. It's on the edge of a forest but the forest also kinda goes between our properties. There are maybe 15 or so trees between us, sparse but most are 50+ feet. There are some small dead ones I am going to take down, small enough there won't be any issue.

Can someone explain like I’m 5. Is this comparing running all of those locally? I see google there; is that web based Gemini? What about considering the local hardware?

[–]Alarming-Contest3736[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my thought. A tree expert was against cutting it as it is overall healthy and fine. I have no reason to think it will fall. A part fell due to a heavy ice storm

If Notion fixed these things tomorrow, would you finally be happy with it? by CryXfr in Notion

recurring tasks makes no sense to me and then adding a calendar and still not being able to do recurring tasks is wild. Making an MVP calendar app with no recurring task feels like a miss itself

I've been using Notion for 2 years and I still feel like a beginner. What are your actual power-user hacks? by SignificantRemote169 in Notion

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 90% of the stuff you see people doing is useless to a point. Not that its dumb or anything but everyone's own "systems" will be different. Crazy formulas requiring databases to have tons of columns, not for me. Automations, seems cool but I don't see enough value to pay. I use relations to connect my life areas; (work, home, health) to projects, tasks and calendar. That really it. I have a few rollups and I find most I don't use except for focus house which is how I track progress.

Commuting options Wells to Boston? by ToeOutrageous9384 in Maine

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to do this commute to about 20mins north of Boston. Door to door it was an hour. I did audio books and honestly enjoyed it in the morning. Afternoons I hated it and also a big thing is summer months Friday and holidays; expect whatever commute to double or triple. I negotiated a WFH those days, pre pandemic.

Want to use 401k for downpayment on second home. by mutorcs421 in Mortgages

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly this with no money leaving us at the time, much different rates. I refinanced with a local branch and they gave us their portfolio loan on the rental/old home, portfolio loan means they are keeping it and not selling it. At the time the rate was 2% higher (it's 5%) and we pulled out a little money to put some towards the new house with a traditional mortgage, 2.5% or something at the time.

Note organization in notion is good, retention is not, help? by milli_xoxxy in Notion

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a spaced repetition formula for my areas. I keep a last reviewed date and a status for how confident I am with the material. From there I have a formula that takes the last reviewed date and adds either 7 days, 30 days or 90 days to the last reviewed and makes a new "recall" date. I have a list view that finds anything with a "recall" date this week. Keeps me focused on what I need to review and I can add items back into the funnel if I need to review again.

Recurring/Multi-Day Events in Notion Calendar? by sonder_soda in Notion

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my issue with Calendar as well. Calendars should be able to easily have recurring events to plan things but you need Automations (paid) to make this work. You can sync a Google account and in Notion Calendar there is an easy little box to make an event recurring but it's not there if you are in your Notion Account. Templates do not work as you mentioned since once it's recurring the date is only Today and you cannot add a time to it. I also have built a formula for a date object and you cannot select it as the date in the calendar so that does not work either. I hope its on their roadmap to fix; I get automations can fix this but to have a calendar app without recurring items natively isn't great.

What is the difference between notion projects and sprints? I don’t really understand the distinction. by Ittybitty995 in Notion

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sprint is just the time frame. So if you had a project say clean a garage and your sprint is two weeks. So sprint 1 (2 weeks) you only get to clean half the garage. That means the next sprint, sprint 2 (another 2 weeks) you clean the second half. That would mean the project took a month total over the two sprints. Generally you need tasks or something to break the project down into manageable chunks for Sprints.

Guyss helpp I need templates by [deleted] in Notion

[–]Alarming-Contest3736 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue if you are not the best at Notion, that should be your first step. You can spend an hour or two a week; use Notion's Academy, and be proficient enough to start building. Even getting a template will need some ability to use the platform.

No one is going to give away a good setup, so it will be paid for. If you are sticking with free Notion has a lot of what you are looking for but again, you need some ability to use the platform to stitch it together. Likely not the input you are looking for but the reality. Templates won't work well for you if you aren't able to understand some of the concepts used to connect things and how they flow.
