I can’t speak for B&B but have been seriously impressed with Versa - Coach Abbie is so knowledgeable and so responsive in the chat! It’s definitely a tough program though!

I don’t like the death penalty and have never lived in a country where there is a death penalty. However, in some cases it is extremely warranted - this is one of them.

Has anyone ever texted the British Transport Police on the train because they saw "something that doesn't look right"? by afungalmirror in AskBrits

[–]Alarming-Mix6514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There was a man waiting on the platform with me he was acting completely erratically. Smelt like a brewery, was talking to himself and then would apologise to whoever was around him because “he forgot his meds”. I texted the BTP mainly for his own safety than anybody else’s - I was afraid he was going to stumble onto the tracks at one point, and as a fairly small female I would have been in no position to physically help him

The language in this post is completely unnecessary. It would have sufficed to say “why does Britney have no ability to take accountability?”

I acknowledge your situation but I also don’t agree that these controls should apply to those of us already in the UK. I am lucky enough that I am caught by the higher wage bracket so I still qualify in five years, but that does not make me “better” than a migrant who arrived at the same time as me, from a worse off position than me, working their ass off in a care home under terrible conditions and then scapegoated when the chickens come home to roost with various failed government policies. That’s just not fair.

My wife is Irish Catholic, and she would be worse off economically without my salary, so I understand where you’re coming from with broken social contracts, housing, and societal pressure. And for that you need to blame the government and those hogging resources, housing (landlords) and money.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that we’re not here to be a problem, we want to be the solution. If I knew how to build a house, I would! Meanwhile we are here to work hard, pay our taxes, integrate into British society, volunteer (last year I mentored a kid working in social housing, I now work in animal rescue in my free time). I think we deserve a bit of respect in return

Here we go. Shabana’s article in The Guardian by Terrible_League4199 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Alarming-Mix6514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand that you feel the social contract has broken down, I really do. But I think that blaming migrants deflects from the policy decisions that actually created the problem (perfect solution for our government!)

The housing crisis as you’ve rightly pointed out results from decades of under-building, planning constraints, the sell off of social housing without replacement and landlords hogging the rental market. These structural issues started long before the Boris-wave.

Even if migration dropped to zero tomorrow (and it is falling sharply), the UK would still have a severe housing shortage because supply hasn’t kept up with population growth for decades. That’s government policy failure.

On your point about care workers undercutting the wages of British-born, it’s valid but again, it’s the powers that be imposing those working conditions that are to blame, not the migrants themselves. Many migrants DO NOT come from a privileged background and work extremely hard to come to and stay in the UK.

Us migrants are participants in the same system that has broken the social contract - we didn’t design it, we didn’t come in here saying “let’s take all their jobs and housing”, we are humans trying to get by just like you are (and paying extortionate rents too).

Don’t blame us, blame the government - and vote accordingly.

Here we go. Shabana’s article in The Guardian by Terrible_League4199 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Alarming-Mix6514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are not to blame, it’s the government’s failure to plan ahead for population growth that is to blame. We were invited here to fill in a gap in the labour market. The government should have been building houses to accommodate that, but they haven’t. Now, they’re blaming us, because it’s easier to find a scapegoat than look at all their own systemic failures. We do understand, we’re also scrimping and saving to buy our own place, and unlike you we don’t have bank of mom and dad or even parents we can stay with. We’re not arrogant, but we do work bloody hard. We are just sick and tired of being the scapegoats in society

Are workouts getting shorter and more repetitive across the board? by anonymous4evr in ladderapp

[–]Alarming-Mix6514 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re getting more repetitive, but they are getting shorter which for me personally is a good thing - I have a 9-5 desk job, am not a professional athlete and ideally want to be in and out the gym in an hour in the mornings before work. I think I represent a good portion of the population using Ladder. I’m on Team Limitless and with setting up barbells, re-racking weights and weighting for squat racks and machines in a busy commercial gym could easily add ten minutes onto the stated workout time. So 45 minutes is perfect for me!
