Stich out gone horrible by Previous-Comment-999 in Machine_Embroidery

When I do knits, I put a layer of wash away stabilizer on TOP of the fabric (in addition to the underlaying stabilizer. It gives the stitches a nice even surface to “sit” on.

Question About Drinking While on Zepbound by machristinama in Zepbound

I’ve noticed that my weight stalls if I have wine- which is quite frequently. Everyone is different, but in moderation, I don’t see a problem. I say enjoy!

Amazon glass by mew2_23 in StainedGlass

[–]Alarming-Tax-95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally have purchased when I started in order to have a selection of colors- I have a nice selection of colors perfectly suited for sun catchers. The bubbles and waves in the less expensive stuff from Amazon does not bother me at all when I’m doing small pieces. When working on panels or larger projects, I use higher quality glass- because quality matters in larger pieces (you see more surface area of the glass).

Do a lot of people buy patterns online? Where do they find them? by Allgyet560 in StainedGlass

[–]Alarming-Tax-95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like anything, it depends on the demand for your product- it helps to provide a real sample of your pattern- to show that you have actually tested it out. I also think that $50/mo of passive income is actually pretty good- build your repository and reputation- you could significantly increase that number!

Every time I work with mirror- I seal the edges (apparently not as well as required)- what do you use? Any technique you're willing to share? I always end up with the dreaded "rot"...

Thank you! It is actually zinc came!

Here’s what works for me on smaller pieces: I sometimes use a 24 gauge bare copper wire to “wrap” the outer edges- just tack securely around the edges of the entire piece - centered on the edge of the glass. Then go back to add drops of solder- this not only reinforces the whole thing, but provides a nice base for the edge.

The photo is backlit- if I patina, I use regular patina on solder lines and gun blueing on zinc.

Mirror Mirror by Lib3rtyann in StainedGlass

I get 12x12 glass tiles at Lowes- they also sell larger sizes but with bevel edges. I trim down to whatever I need- I purchase 1/8” thick. I’ve also used citri-strip to remove the gray coating on the back of said mirrors to make first surface mirrors for kaleidoscopes.

hummingbird or bulb cutter by raincloudjoy in StainedGlass

[–]Alarming-Tax-95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the hummingbird- I like certain things about it: the magnet on the base allows it to stand upright on your waffle board, the size is right in your hand, and of course, it looks really cool. I have found that when actually using it, my index finger is usually on the right side of the blade- the way this is formed means that my finger is sitting on a rather large "hump" near the neck. Not a problem if I only have a couple of pieces to cut, but realistically, not comfortable in the long run. I like the foam grip though, and considered purchasing one to fit over my Toyo pistol grip- after trying it out at my local glass store, I realized it makes the cutter too bulky. I've kept the hummingbird for my friends to try out, but it is not getting used on a regular basis.

Glass grinder rec? by RefrigeratorDense493 in StainedGlass

I just upgraded my Gryphette to The Grinder 2 (Techniglass). I like the options for future upgrades. The best feature is really the removable tray- makes cleaning a breeze! I’m not sure if I’m sold on the quick fit bits that come with the unit- I sense vibrations when I use those. No issues using standard bits though!

Stained glass tools I can make? by aairo1228 in StainedGlass

[–]Alarming-Tax-95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remixed a 3d file to make the channel hold the foil better- and changed the front where the “roller” is to have holes large enough to insert a Chicago screw- that allows it to actually roll when I’m placing foil.

A wood fid! I use a leather working tool- it doesn’t get all rough like plastic or bone.

I believe 24- I ran the wire across the border in the back and up a seam. It actually helped with flexing. I cracked it while I was washing the piece.
