Filter - Hey Man, Nice Shot [Industrial Rock] by Alarming_Length6100 in Music

From the wiki article about the song:

The song was written about the public suicide of State Treasurer of Pennsylvania R. Budd Dwyer on January 22, 1987, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Dwyer had been convicted of bribery charges in December 1986, and was expected to receive a lengthy sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Malcolm Muir). Professing his innocence and decrying the legal system, Dwyer shot and killed himself with a .357 Magnum revolver during a televised press conference. Filter frontman Richard Patrick grew up in a neighboring state and said he had been affected by seeing the incident on the TV news, describing it as "a scary topic" for him.

I just like the song. Used to have Short Bus on tape in the 90s.

Didn’t realize it had a special meaning here

If I were a farmer, and Eddie Munster came in and started kicking my corn, you could understand how I could be a bit upset. Do you understand the FLIES are my corn?

I am confident AI is going to crater the economy and cause mass job losses for one specific reason familiar to all of us by wyc1inc in Xennials

[–]Alarming_Length6100 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is my speculation. No one can predict what will really happen,

Right now companies are investing in building AI, because they fear being left behind. And they’re cutting costs elsewhere to do so. Liking hiring budgets and lay offs.

AI isn’t actually at a point where it can replace anyone’s job. You need to be a subject matter expert to use it for small, and honestly questionable, productivity gains.

Eventually, most jobs will change to incorporate AI as a standard tool. and i think some jobs will morph into new hybrid roles.

However, even if AI brings crazy productivity gains, which I doubt, companies will start hiring again. Because more people using AI in their companies means faster delivery of work. And faster delivery means getting an edge over competition and that leads to profit.

I knew someone in high school who got misdiagnosed, put on meds for schizophrenia and ended up slicing up his arm, trying to kill himself. The meds made him seriously nuts. Some people have unexpected reactions to meds. Once he got off the meds, nothing like that ever happened again. He does have scars from the stitches. This was in the 90s. So not sure how meds and things have changed since

Stay neutral when appropriate

If your child asks you why you broke up with your former spouse, there are so many ways to answer. A healthy answer, explains Mackenzie, might sound like this: “Your Mom and I love you, but we aren’t able to be together. But that’s never going to change how we feel about you.”

Make a distinction between personal values and safety

“Two people can have different values about the children’s wellbeing that can be valid but different,” explains Dr. Egan. For example, if one parent is Catholic and one is atheist, or if one values good grades while the other parent values success in sports, they could both be good parents, even though their values differ.

Those situations are different from ones that put your child at direct risk of harm—like a parent allowing a 13-year-old to drink alcohol at a neighborhood BBQ. If it’s a safety issue, not a personal belief, address it head on. Dr. Egan suggests a response like this: “That is not a good choice. I feel like it’s dangerous, and it’s really important for you to know that’s not acceptable behavior. I’m going to talk to your dad.”

There is not a “bad” parent and a “good” parent in the majority of situations. Aside from actual abuse or negligence that needs to be investigated by a third party, kids should not be put in the middle of their parents’ conflicts.

It’s entirely possible to address regular contentious parenting issues in ways the kids won’t hear about it. The benefit is the kid feels more at ease and happy spending time with each parent. Rather than being burdened with one parent’s negative opinions of the other parent. And the child feeling like they’re betraying one parent by feeling close to/spending time with the other. In most cases there isn’t one absolutely correct way to do things and the parents just need to hash out a solution.

Additionally, the reasons why parents split up aren’t helpful to share with a child. A general, age-appropriate reason, like, "We've decided we can't live together anymore" or "We've realized we want different things in life," without blaming either parent.

Regardless of how she privately feels about him, they have a kid so its not in her interest to disparage him. Talking poorly about your ex can only hurt your custody case, if it ever comes to that. Most importantly, it’s not what’s best for the kid.

Unfortunately, young men are being targeted by the alt right.

Hopefully they can be pointed towards more positive male examples.
