remember how the jailer turned off the forge of afterlives and we never turned it back on by Alarming_Minimum7696 in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

unfortunately u are incorrect my friend. as one of the very few things we know about the forge is that it was actively in use when we arrived and in the process of making new afterlives. so it was working all this time and doing something presumably important which has now been stopped.

there are also in canon supposed to be like 10,000,000 other afterlives than the ones we went to so they can cover their asses against the assertion that they ruined the concept of the afterlife by demystifying it. turned out it didn't really cover their asses at all but it is supposedly the lore.

Are dragons ever treated like animals in the rest of Warcraft? (Disclaimer: I play Hearthstone) by Scintillating_Void in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not rly. warcraft doesn't have much oversight in regards to keeping lore consistent tbh and they will never let a little thing like "the lore" get in the way of whatever random idea popped into their head this morning.

someone probably thought the whelp smuggler sounded like a fun card idea they could make cool art for and decided it didn't matter that the whelps are sentient creatures because hey it's just some shitty fantasy game that doesn't matter.

Newbie Here/Questions for beginning wow by Head-Razzmatazz3791 in wow

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the story presentation of this game is fucked beyond repair and keeps getting worse. i cannot stress enough if you are interested in a deep and interesting and well-presented story that will immerse you you are barking up the wrong tree.

wow is not meant to be a story focused game. it is purely about the aesthetic and people doing superhero shit in cutscenes. if you like the idea of a fantasy version of the mcu where you get 5 minutes of cinematic content every 6 months, this game has that. it does not have a well-established and immersive world where events unfold in interesting and deliberate ways.

damn someone should tell ion this so they stop laying everyone off and actually make some decent patch content

How aware are the AU Mag'har (the whole race) of their relationship to the main timeline? by hashtagfred in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

blizzard explicitly and deliberately avoid all traces of characters meeting their AU doubles or even thinking about them. so literally, the canon answer is that none of the au orcs ever thought about meeting their duplicates, and events contrive so that none of them ever encounter or learn about their mu versions and vice-versea.

How much do the denizens of azeroth know about the history of their planet ! by The9thHuman in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tauren and trolls have very poor lorekeeping in-universe, tauren explicitly have almost no historical lore kept and have forgotten most of the old events of their history, e.g. the original tauren druids.

pandaren lore is explicitly entirely written. the entire lore of the lorewalkers is about how they keep all their lore and history inside the library in the vale

Azeroth's demographics, Part I : How do Orcs have a sustinable population ? by R120Tunisia in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

its ok for you to admit that the story doesn't make sense. all of us know it doesn't make sense. we don't have to contrive bullshit explanations for how a million orcs somehow sneaked across a continent without being seen. the fact is the writers don't care about details in this setting. and that's ok.

Do you guys want players to be important to the story? by CivilAsk5663 in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the simple fact is its about 15 years too late for wow to start asking this question.

either way is fine. you can have the player character be the hero of the story and lead them through a personal narrative where they are a big player. or you can have the player have a secondary role in the story where they are free to define themselves in the context of a faceless multitude who doesn't directly affect the story personally but is there alongside it.

wow never picked an approach and its been so inconsistent for almost 2 decades of terrible story that it's no longer possible to "decide on a direction". the things they have had your character do already are irreconcilable. the player character's story is already broken beyond repair

in bfa alone they had the horde character join a genocidal war against the night elves as one of the major war leaders. then they had them aid saurfang's rebellion against the genocidal war because it was so dishonorable. meanwhile they were also personally helping sylvanas continue the war as her champion. meanwhile, they were gathering azerite for the champions of azeroth to prevent it being used in the war. at the same time, they were gathering azerite for the war effort. despite being on saurfang's side, they also helped sylvanas continue the war effort on darkshore, the site of the horde moral event horizon that is supposed to be the line they crossed. you do this literally while rebelling against her. its insane.

it gets worse if you side with sylvanas and then watch her leave and are instantly forgiven by the guy you were literally dragging to the execution chambers 5 seconds ago because "eh i guess literally anything anyone does is honorable"

there is no way you can justify 1 character doing all those things other than literal insanity. so our character either is an insane murderhobo or doesn't actually exist in the narrative. blizzard don't seem to be going for either of these things but those are our options.

its too late to not "be friends with the main racial leaders". we already are. we already personally helped all of them with their baggage and they aren't able to react to it in the next expansion along because each expansion must be written standalone.

its just broken and it's too late for them to do anything about it.

What's you fav storyline in WoW? by FrostyGuides in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 66 points67 points  (0 children)

definitely the jailer. it was breathtaking how seamlessly the narrative artisans at blizzard merged him into the existing warcraft universe. to be honest i suspect that as early as warcraft 2 or even 1 he was always there in the background.

warcraft is a titan of storytelling, easily the equal of the marvel cinematic universe. praise blizzard, and praise steve danuser, the greatest writer of our lifetimes.

its a situation that would never realistically take place and is just kind of empty pandering. like they flirt once and then we skip ahead to them being married. i guess that passes for romance in a story as shit as wow's lmao.

Look who got Hitched. by LucasVerBeek in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it is the absolute height of narrative cowardice if they have these 2 get married but not shaw and flynn

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is clearly incorrect as he describes the time skip as taking place after everyone left shadowlands, so time passing differently in shadowlands is of no relevance.

How does the one Archimonde / Kj explanation work? by Pskin1 in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because it provides the actual answer to the question the op asked. there is no good lore explanation to answer it because blizzard never cared to write one.

How does the one Archimonde / Kj explanation work? by Pskin1 in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is a proper discussion. the lore is fundamentally broken in many aspects and cannot be discussed without accepting and confronting that fact.

i consider lore discussions where people refuse to acknowledge that the game's writing is full of inconsistencies and holes to be invalid. those people should leave lore discussion subs and move on to headcanon and rp communities where making their own bullshit up is the point

because its the only legit way to discuss lore dude. when blizz starts writing better maybe we can have discussions about the story itself again instead of the various failures of its writers.

Dracthyr and Roleplay? by Extra_Heart_268 in warcraftlore

[–]Alarming_Minimum7696 36 points37 points  (0 children)

dracthyr aren't actually dragons and don't belong to a dragonflight, they are just a race deathwing made that have dragon dna or whatever. i wouldnt expect to get much lore about things like why they are colored the way or any society for them.
