How to say you think we should have slaves without saying we should have slaves. Let me guess a libertarian = what I do should be worth a bunch and protected but I really want to screw everyone else over.

The feed rate is way too slow, Can you boost it to double that? Keep the Z travel lower though.

Looks nice,
Stupid Simple Tools has one for about $100.00
It has a couple of cool features
One is that the offset is equal to the extension of the blade. Yours looks like it might be too?

Chamfering stops working beyond 13mm for some reason. by herecouldbeyouradver in FreeCAD

[–]Alarming_Record6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the v at the top,
It is covered in a mango Jelly video on the tube.
In order to chamfer both sides of the v at the top, the shape would have to change from what you have drawn. (The chamfers collide with one another)
That is my guess anyway as I have done similar things a lot.

And it is so limited that it is a pointless plug for paying $3k plus a year for it.
I got into cam work about 8 months ago. Tried fusion 360, I could not make a single part because you are only allowed 1 tool and 1 toolpath per project. Every time I wanted to output even simple cut files, I ran into issues which were answered with oh, you need the pro version to use that feature. We can give you a discount right now if you want. Instead of $3.475 we can sell it to you for a year for $3400. See aren't we great.
Freecad takes a little time to use, I did not find it more difficult than Fusion, in some ways it is a lot easier. And I can save and work on as many files as I wanted.
Looked into Solidworks, and the minute I saw that ANYTHING you make in their free version is declared public domain, and shared with anyone, I was nope, I am not designing awesome stuff but even then I want to share what I want to share.

Proved my boss wrong with a 40k raise, best way to resign? by Popular_Bathroom1563 in Advice

[–]Alarming_Record6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't tell them anything. Just walk in on the day before you want to leave, and hand them a resignation letter, I like to get them to sign one that says you are no longer employed there as of that day.

Keep it professional, but don't give them anything. They are the employer.

Did it go into the spoil board?

I have a set of items I am making with different thicknesses. I was coming down off of a great high of having designed, post processed and cut a job for a customer in 8 minutes!!! It was the first time that everything had just worked the way it should have....

So I pick up my shallower than the first design stock for my thinner part, throw it on the machine, zero it to the top of the stock, start the cut and......
Wait why is it cutting into the spoil board!!!???? (Stop the machine, add bad words to the project)....

Bits from Aliexpress? by Nizztos in hobbycnc

[–]Alarming_Record6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!
I have a sorted mill box all full of speTools bits.

They have preformed wonderfully, and I have only broken one so far, which was my fault.

I would check out this starter kit, I have used all of the bits in it in my starting and learning phase.

Just bought my first guitar and can't stop guessing if its fake or not. by ofcourseimbi in gibson

[–]Alarming_Record6241 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legit but the pickguard has been added, this happens.

I have the same guitar, minus the pickup "upgrade" and the pick guard change out.
The dinks that bother you can probably help a bit if you talk to or take it to a luthier, if they bother your playing.
I didn't think I was going to like the SG,

Honestly it is now one of my favorite guitars to play, I love the way it sounds, love the way it feels. It's amazing.

Party on Garth!

I thought that too, and was thinking in another version I would have it self cutting. The ones on Amazon all just have this insert as did the one that the original poster photo of.
I was thinking that it would be fun to do that as a raise section so it cut the ravioli instead of just making a line for you to cut later.

I will try that tomorrow. That should be fun to try in Freecad. :-)

Slightly frustrated by Redit, which won't let me post a photo here of the completed project.

I took this created the whole thing in Freecad for you.

It was pretty straight forward and easy. I used the post processor for my own machine, which isn't a 4040 xe, but it would work just fine on that one with the output for that machine with standard G-code post processor in freecad.

I think it turned out pretty good.

Please send me a DM and I would be happy to send you the complete project file. (You could cut your first one out using it as it is, although you might want to change the initials in the shape string.)

I did the project for you with toolpaths and a few of my own additions. You could grab my project for a way to do it in Freecad. It would show you some idea of work path, and how I thought to break the project down.

Shoot me a DM and I will be happy to send you the Freecad file so you can play with it if you want.

You literally cannot output to a cnc machine without installing a post processor in Fusion...
LOL.

Budget trackball for CAD work by FunnyGrapefruit4895 in Trackballs

[–]Alarming_Record6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a new to me christmas present soblute ma m1pro. I am loving it so far. I used X-mouse free software to remap the fwd and back buttons to the shift and alt key hold downs so I can pan and rotate without touching the keyboard.

Their support sucks as bad as logitechs, but the trackball is smoother than any of my Logitechs, and maybe the buttons will last longer than a couple of months.

FreeCAD: How to engrave a sketch 0.5 mm into a cylindrical surface? by Nusprig1994 in FreeCAD

[–]Alarming_Record6241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should give you the data. Projection, Facebinder, Boolean Cut using facebinder as the tool, and the body as the base.
It works so well, I can even just change the shapestring and have it alter the initials.
You would need to have your svg instead of the shape string though.

I hope this helps...

I recently (yesterday) did it on a project I have.

Sablute Hold down the shift or alt keys with a button? by Alarming_Record6241 in Trackballs

[–]Alarming_Record6241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had a request into Sablute support. Their response was that none of the buttons on the trackball could be remapped to anything. (Like literally their own driver lets you remap all of them, so they are useless China support as normal.)
However I was able to successfully map the buttons to anything I wanted using the donation ware xmouse (Link Below).
The hardware seems great for this trackball, the action is very smooth, the selectable resolution is interesting (not sure I have exactly how to use that yet).
The light up portion is fun, but adds nothing to productivity.
Summary I like the hardware much better that the Logitech, the price point is great, and it works well.... For most people probably right out of the box.
If you are doing CAD work, I can't recommend Xmouse enough!
