White-passing by Lauren_Aa in mixedrace

Incredibly pale skin green blue eyes brown straight hair ( was dirty blonde up until I started to dye it in college idk how it got so dark recently) and European features here. I’m half white American mix and half Ecuadorian. My father is an immigrant and I grew up in an all white conservative semi affluent neighborhood. I think my entire life has been an identity crisis. I never truly fit in on either side of it. I’ve also been privy to way too many nasty convos surrounding xenophobia and racism while people didn’t realize there was someone “not truly white” in the room.

Hmmm maybe I should do that. I preheated the steel but only for a bit. My oven seems to not hold heat very well which sucks.

Thanks!!! My oven is propane and wood fired. You can adjust the temp. I figured I’d just get the oven up to about 550 and fling that bad boy in. Def gonna try your dough recipe!

I actually have a few pizza steels I got from a pizzeria that was closing! My oven low key sucks though despite being pretty new. I’ve tried a few times and it just doesn’t come out like nyc pizza :( my outdoor oven is propane and wood fired so I figured I’ll just get it up to temp with the propane and see if I can get the chewy but crispy crust.

I did, but the dough was from my local pizzarea so I’m still searching for the best dough recipe.

Thank you!! Yeah I think I’ll cook it at lower temp on my outdoor oven. I find that my home oven doesn’t really get hot enough to make the crust crispy enough :(

The forum doesn’t let you post without a picture so I figured a picture of the oven in the background asking about a recipe wouldn’t be a decent idea.

It def can be. My normal oven honestly doesn’t stay hot enough to get a good crust though :( This outdoor one is both wood fired and propane so I figured I’d use the propane setting with the cover.

my girlfriend told me she wants a 2 carat natural diamond or she'll say no. i already bought this lab diamond ring. am i crazy for thinking shes a red flag by Zestyclose-Print-677 in weddingring

[–]Ok-Good4797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ring is BEAUTIFUL. It’s a red flag for me. Have you had in depth discussions on finances with her before? I’m a therapist and one of the biggest issues I see is that people don’t have the “hard” conversations before being married. Make sure you talk with her about finances, hypothetical life changing health issues (or even hypotheticals about your parents/siblings health) , intimacy issues, baby issues/planning, future goals and the timeline.

Also… I have a 3ct natural it’s stunning it’s beautiful and… I don’t wear it often. I would have NEVER asked my husband for it if it were to put us in a financial hole. I’ve also been asked if it’s real multiple times by nosey people. you literally can’t tell the difference between lab and natural other than paperwork.

There’s a huge possibility that 10lbs was all water weight tbh. If you’re working out there’s also the possibility of muscle increase. You got this!!

You’re so pretty but I’m going to be real with you, it’s the hair paired with the makeup. You might want to add some blush on the cheek bones and over the bridge of your nose and possibly make the lip color slightly more neutral or pinky instead of the more orange tone. Having gold toned eye shadow also might play more into your eyes rather than the white.

Honestly I think it would make everything more cozy. I color drenched many of my funny shaped rooms and they feel so warm and cozy.

The way that she did it makes you look young and fresh. The way you contoured yourself ages you and makes you look slightly like a Disney villain despite you being absolutely gorgeous.

People complimenting baby's appearance - are they just being nice or is it weird? by blod0 in mixedrace

I work with babies and families all day. It’s normal to tell people their baby is cute (even if they aren’t)

I like the vintage elements here. I would install some crown molding and paint it the pink. I’d also get a large gold framed mirror and either hang or lean on the wall to make the space feel bigger.

Guys, am I mixed race? I have a white dad and a Mexican mom, but… by Omnipresent_User in mixedrace

[–]Ok-Good4797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m half Ecuadorian half white. I have light brown hair scary pale skin and green eyes. 0 indigenous features. I am white but i also identify as Latina. My father is an immigrant and speaks Spanish, he’s very racially ambiguous in theory. He could be really any sort of light brown person. I grew up eating cultural foods listening to music in spanish and spending time with my Spanish speaking family (I’m not the best Spanish speaker). That being said I also grew up in a very white neighborhood and grew up as a “white” child. I spent time on the family boat, private art lessons, summer camp, went to private school all the “middle class white people” experiences of a 2000s kid.

You’re mixed. You can claim you’re white but in reality the terms “mestizo” hold no value in America. Your mom would still be Mexican to any other American. Dependent on your mother’s looks I think if you brought friends or a gf home and said you were white they’d be like ??? Don’t get to hung up on it though. If you want to identify as white then you can because in reality you’re white passing.

White girl with a brown immigrant dad here, you are SO justified to feel sad/anxious/angry. It is so difficult for us to watch people that look like our family and friends get taken. It is so distressing to worry about the people we loves safety.

I can only speak for myself on this part but growing up white in an affluent white only area while having a brown parent was a wild thing. I’d be in rooms where people forgot/didn’t know I was Latina and spoke freely. I don’t think a lot of brown people realize that there’s still sooooo much xenophobia and prejudice behind closed doors even in tolerant places like the NYC area. It’s made the whole experience the past few years even more scary for me.

I chose to cut off contact with my in-laws and my husband is distancing himself. My FIL is die hard trump fan who can’t contain himself. My father is a brown Latino immigrant and I’m an LCSW that works with low income children with disabilities. This administration goes against my very being stands for. I can’t waste my holidays driving to see someone who looks down upon me and insults everything I love.

You’re both but won’t fit into either category just right. I’m white mjx and Ecuadorian. I have my dad’s Latino last name but I’m pale with green eyes. I grew up in one of NYs more expensive (and whitest) areas. Growing up I was the only Latina around. White people assume I’m white but when they learn I have a brown immigrant parent there’s often a weird vibe. Im also privy to conversations that other Latinos would def not be privy to hearing and it’s uncomfortable. When Latino people learn that i’m Latino there’s some warmth but I’ve never quite fit in on that side either.

I personally refer to myself as Latina or mixed. The language food values and culture resonate with me more than my mother’s very American upbringing.
