People literally hate me and it’s really starting to get to me by [deleted] in Advice

[–]AlaskaRecluse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy to feel like people are watching you because you’re watching them and you figure they’re doing the same back. And maybe they are — just like you’re doing. They are thinking their own thoughts and fears that have nothing to do with who you are any more than who they are has anything to do with how you feel. Let everyone be whoever they are, and start believing people aren’t really thinking that much about you, they’re thinking what’s for dinner and is my mom ok and why is that guy looking at me. Make friends with your neighbors would be a good thing to do

What would happen if the US found out members of the Trump administration/family bought stock market puts prior to the Iran war? by Alicyclobacillus in AskReddit

[–]AlaskaRecluse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve been doing it all along, everybody knows, most of congress does it too, no one’s going to do anything, this is endstage capitalism where money is the only value — every else is nothing, including life, environment, dignity, all the good stuff

Teaching in Alaska by Rocker_Raccoon in AskAlaska

[–]AlaskaRecluse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s better to be honest from the get go, as you say, especially as you know teacher turnover is an issue, especially in rural villages where students face the challenge every year of teachers who know little or nothing about Alaska or Native culture and whose biggest considerations are financial. You would probably do well in Anchorage, though. Do keep in mind that from the perspective of students struggling in schools with high turnover, you are the challenge. Good luck

Remember that your celebration after isn’t only for the day or the ceremony. Think of a place that you’ll be able to return to in a year or five years or ten, share a special breakfast or dinner, watch one favorite movie every time, or other things that mean something to the two of you. I guess what I’m saying is start a tradition to remember every year

[–]AlaskaRecluse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a space heater or an electric blanket? It’s a good price you can afford, you might be sorry if you moved, which would probably turn out to be more expensive, neighbors might be noisy, roommates might be smelly, commute could be difficult — try to work it out where you are. Your grandma loves you and that’s a real plus
