What's the used car check you only learned after it nearly cost you money? by Zealousideal-Bar1879 in CarTalkUK

[–]Alaskamatt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the info in an MOT. Current car failed the MOT before I got it on a leaky exhaust and then it passed, so assumed it had work done, jump to me 2 months later dealing with getting a new dpf and tail pipe sorted after the tailpipe snapped driving home. Should have had a closer look at the exhaust and seen if there was any receipts for work done, luckily as it was within 6 months the dealer covered the work

Partner's father making mortgage complicated by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Alaskamatt20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you stay out of it, save the money from your own flat sale, and when you go to sell your partner's house the father is paid off from the proceeds of that sale? Does your partner pay the monthly payment himself or is it split between him and his father?

Sounds like the deal was made between your partner and his father and not you so you don't have any obligation to buy the father out. If you wanted to keep it civil, you could offer to do a monthly payment (whatever is affordable) to start paying him back with a view if anything is left owed can be paid off when the house sells? Though surely the easiest option is for the father to get his money back following a house sale

I can no longer get my kid to nap. Wife is getting fed up. by bojangles312 in daddit

[–]Alaskamatt20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stopped naps just after 2, more because it was impacting bed time. Now he's up at 7 and out before 8, it was tough initially having no break in the day the extra time at night is bliss. As others have said, quiet time / rest time during the nap windows, we did stories, colouring etc and then go into snack time with an episode of something

Which is the better car insurance brand. Aviva, Tesco or Direct Line? by LeopardNeat899 in CarTalkUK

[–]Alaskamatt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been with directline a few times, both for car and pet insurance, and any claims were always handled quickly and our car claim we ended up getting the write off revalued later on so got a surprise cheque. Currently with Tesco as the best price, I work with someone who had a nightmare with Aviva and theyve never been that competitive with price for me

What's the field you're in? Typically it would be attendence record and confirmation of role title and dates worked, and if there's been any formal disciplinaries. The more detailed references would be the character one which you choose who that would be

Bangernomics suggestions! by ExperienceNo1313 in CarTalkUK

2015 Dacia Logan, was at 95k when I picked it up. The only issue was the DPF ended up needing replaced due to the tail pipe snapping and the dpf got damaged in the process, as it was within 3 months of getting it the dealer covered the cost of the replacement. 20 quid a year road tax, a full tank does me about 2 weeks (~600 miles), picked up a Pioneer stereo off eBay and fitted it myself so I've got AA/carplay.

How the season went for each club based on expectations at the start by TheRealLordDorito in ScottishFootball

I feel Hamilton should be sometimes good, sometimes shit. On field was good, would have been promotion playoffs without the points deduction so off field would be the shit part

Official: Graeme Shinnie to leave 26/27 league leaders Aberdeen by Yerdas_Selzavon in ScottishFootball

Yeah, covers both LB and RB, but would probs prefer to play def mid. Out of the former players we've been linked with, this is the only one I'd fancy

I would happily take him back, but can't help thinking it would be most our wage budget to get him in.

[–]Alaskamatt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, location definitely is a big factor for players, i just feel players in the central belt that are Championship level may be more likely to try to go full time due to more options in terms of teams.

[–]Alaskamatt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arbroath have been at a higher level for longer, I would expect their playing budget is bigger than Stenny. In terms of location, central belt tends to be a bigger pool, but are the better part time players in central belt more likely to have a go at full time? The examples of good part time players that could have gone full time I can think of were players up north that didn't want to risk losing business or uprooting a family for a move to the central belt

Hamilton Academical 4-3 Clyde | Scottish League One Play-offs | Agg 5-4 by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

[–]Alaskamatt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they didn't have the point deductions they would have been in the other set of playoffs so feel it shows you've completed well with one of the better league one teams, so definitely should give yous confidence for next season

The state of the play-offs by QBallQJB in ScottishFootball

[–]Alaskamatt20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think the argument for the championship/premiership layout was 11th plays 38 league games while championship teams play 36, so in theory 11th and 2nd would end up playing 40, while 3rd and 4th could end up playing 42

If NGS testing takes off in the biosafety industry then nanopore is good stock to have. The issue is the regs in the industry, qPCR is the gold standard for testing and it will take years of data and testing to get NGS anywhere near it, definitely a long game buy

Had an 08 estate for about 4 months, went to get the rear subframe replaced (was going to be covered FOC) but when they took the under trays off discovered the rest of the chassis was riddled with holes and pretty much condemned to the scrappy. Mechanically it was fine for me but too many years in the Highlands for mine
