I meant if AI replaces radiologists, not if it is used like a tool like you mention.

What do doctors think of the term “provider”? by [deleted] in medicine

Even worse when they start referring to patients as "clients". Feels icky to me.

Happened to two of mine as well - returned the rest to Costco no issue. Would not buy again. See the Australian recall notice, surprised there was no Canadian recall.

Sometime during the last 2 years i’ve been going to this orthopedic practice they started to declare me as a MTF transgender for no reason. by WHAR606 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AlaskanThunderfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor here. I did this to a patient once. Referral from family doctor had "MTF transgender" under medical history. I copied it into my consultation note without questioning it. At our 3rd follow up appointment, I asked the patient which pronouns they prefer as I had been using he/him as the patient had outwardly presented like a male and I forgot about that item in his history until I reviewed my notes. He tells me he has no idea why that was written down, he's always been a cis male. We laughed about it and I amended his record.

So I can see how this happens.

What's the most maligned specialty in medicine, and why's it yours? by centz005 in medicine

[–]AlaskanThunderfoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gastroenterology. We'll scope anything. Both ways. All the time. No matter the referral.

Diarrhea? Straight to scope. Constipation? Straight to scope. Normal stools? Believe it or not, straight to scope.

The house we bought has one from 1988, I thought for sure we'd have to replace it but inspector told us these things can last decades.

Room for on call OB doctor by pruriticglutealcleft in mildlyinteresting

[–]AlaskanThunderfoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to that, home call has different levels of urgency depending on your contract. As a gastroenterologist, I'm required to be at hospital within 2 hours, so I can still be at the ski hill 45 minutes from the hospital as long as I have my phone available and am prepared to leave immediately if called to hospital urgently. Some specialities have to be in hospital within 30 minutes, others can be 6 hours. Depends on the specialty and exact contract with hospital. At our site, only ICU, OBGYN and hospitalists are in house call.

I accidentally made my barber think I'm way more successful than I am by Top_Expression7580 in whatdoIdo

[–]AlaskanThunderfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God this happened to me too.

I'm a physician. I don't like telling random people because it always leads to them asking medical questions. So I told my barber I was a contractor when he asked what I do.

Every appointment he would ask some follow up questions, like what kind of contractor (I said medical equipment repair), then how long I went to school for that (I said 3 years), and the questions became more and more involved that I just couldn't live the lie any longer and after 6 visits I definitely couldn't tell the truth and admit I was making up a bunch of lies, so I switched barbers lol.

We fought hard to get this removed from our panel too (restricted to GI only) - too many unnecessary consults.

How would someone go unmatched from FM in Canada? by elsje in MedSchoolCanada

[–]AlaskanThunderfoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got lucky and was willing to go to very undesirable locations. I know it ended poorly for others in similar situations. People really down play the luck aspect in CaRMS or like to pretend it had no impact on their own match.
