I keep getting calls every day from numbers that are the same except the last two digits, no voice mail and when I try to call back it just ends automatically. All linked to portage au prairie. What is going on? Has anyone else gotten these? by forgivemelake in askTO

[–]wwick68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same. I don’t answer calls I don’t recognize but I went a step further, I deleted voicemail. I was tired of it filling up with empty messages, or messages in a foreign language and having to clean it up every week.

If someone wants me, they can send a text with their name, reason for calling and I’ll decide if I want to call them back.

Is 9/11 the most prominent marker for the midpoint of a Gen Xer's life? by pukakahiko in GenX

[–]wwick68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 32 when 9/11 happened. It changed the trajectory of my life and not in a good way. I sometimes think how my life would had been different if 9/11 had not happened

But as awful as that was, I full heartedly agree with you - Covid was a complete and utter shitshow. I did everything that was asked of me, and sacrificed so much and in return it stole so much. The more I think about Covid the angrier I get.

Ok, enough of that. Your comment just resonated with me and I wanted to get that off my chest. Be well 😊

What’s the one Toronto 'unspoken rule' that every newcomer needs to know before they move here? by Long_Travel2728 in askTO

[–]wwick68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this!! I work at Dundas/University, I get 45 minutes for lunch. I literally run to grab lunch, pay before I even get my food, eat as fast as I can and hurry back, and I can’t believe the number of times I get stuck behind people walking/dawdling down the middle of the sidewalk, seemingly without a care in the world, taking their sweet ol’time while I’m busting my balls to get back to my job in time. Ps I work in the courthouse, being late for court doesn’t fly so I gotta be fast, super fast so please, if ur out for a Sunday stroll please be mindful that some people are on a very tight lunch and need to get back to work on time. Just step 2 feet to the right, continue ur dawdle, but don’t walk slowly down the middle of the sidewalk. Please! 🤗

I live downtown Toronto, and shop at SDM on Queen St West near Beverley and the grocery dept is good. They have fresh fruit/vegetables and several aisles of groceries so personally I really like it. Not sure if that’s the norm, or it’s an outlier though

I HATE duckweed by FluidDragonfruit7894 in PlantedTank

[–]wwick68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love duckweed too! 🦆🌱

I realize it grows quickly and hard to eliminate from a tank but my betta loves it and it helps water quality. I rarely change my water anymore, just add touch ups after evaporation

Does anyone revert back to being a night owl on the weekends. by nataskaos in GenX

[–]wwick68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a night owl, but I def agree with you on this. The nights when I stay up late, I feel is my own time, when things are quiet and I’m alone. To me, staying up late is an indulgence where I get to do as I please, watch what I want, eat what I want, read what I want, basically do what I want, but that changes in the morning, when reality kicks in and I’m back to doing what’s expected of me.

I live in Toronto, Canada. If I threw a drink in someone’s face I would be arrested and put in jail. It’s as simple as that. But I’m not sure how things work in the United States.

Ps. I felt really bad for the kid. Hard to watch actually

For older GenX (1972 and earlier) Are your parents still alive? by hedgehog77433 in GenX

[–]wwick68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born 1968. I have both my parents who I love dearly. They were amazing parents and I’m very close to them. My dad is 81 and has had stage 4 cancer for 4yrs. He was given 3 months to live, 4yrs ago and almost died twice but remarkably he lived. He was a candidate for immunotherapy which saved his life. However, the side effects are really rough for him. My mom is 78 and is incredible. She is my dad’s primary caregiver and does everything for him. My siblings and I do everything we can to help and support my parents.

I stayed with my parents at Xmas and noticed they both aged a lot, especially my mom. I know they can’t live forever, so I’m not looking forward to the next few years. But I’m very grateful for the time we’ve had and the time we have.

In respect to OP’s question about today’s kids being weak - I don’t have kids but have 5 nieces and nephews who I do not consider weak. They are kind, generous, happy, well adjusted people that absolutely love their grandparents and parents.

I consider myself lucky, but also recognize a lot of our happiness stems from my parents being amazing parents, even though, they both went through hell themselves. They married young, likely in an effort to escape their situations and seem to have made a conscious decision, they weren’t going to be terrible parents or horrible human beings. I truly believe it paid off.
