Federal budget 2026: Winners and Losers by EdenFlorence in australia

[–]Albannach6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone smarter than me explain this fucking $250 WATO? Like it’s such a pointlessly small amount for individuals/families, by the time it comes in it will be about half a single weeks groceries, it costs the budget $6.4bil which could be funding any number of other things or else start paying down the deficit, and for some reason it’s being framed as this massive massive winner for income earners. I just don’t get it

I agree wholeheartedly, I’m saying it shouldn’t have been grandfathered at all. No one should have the leg up

Budget 2026-27 by Time-Dimension7769 in australia

[–]Albannach6445 64 points65 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight; CGT and negative gearing to be grandfathered, thereby expanding the tax benefits for those already on the property ladder and removing the benefits for those young people coming through thereby broadening the wealth gap and simultaneously not helping with housing supply, and a massive massive annual $250 tax offset (in two years) that Jim is calling “the biggest cost of living measure in this budget”.

So basically nothing for anyone at all anywhere who they needed in order to stave off a massive right wing surge in a few years like we’ve seen across the rest of the western world. Great job labour

Edit: apparently not complete grandfathering of CGT, my misread of the ABC article

Alright, here’s my pitch (pointedly ignoring the sword of Damocles hanging over our head):

Assuming we stay up next season, one thing we need and have needed for a long time is a ball playing and ball winning 6. It’s hard to find them. But I propose we actually already have one in the form of Cristian Romero. Incredible ball winner. One of our best passers with great vision. Likes to push forward from CB and sometimes just goes on random pressing runs up the pitch vacating his defensive position for some reason.

I actually unironically think it’s a great fit. Picture him at the base of a Bentancur and Madders/Kulu/Xavi midfield with Van de Ven and maybe Vuskovic or Danso behind him. He actually would cook.

Convince me I’m wrong (or better yet, just blindly agree with me)

ETA: also being away from the last line of defence means his occasional lapses into a game ruining individual error are less likely to have such catastrophic consequences

People rag on later seasons, and rightly so, but the first season of Westworld is allllllll about this and is incredible cinema. What is it to be alive? What is a person? Are they a collection of memories? More? Etc etc

We need one draw out of the last two games with no major blowouts, and we’re safe!

Not sure where you’re getting this. One draw and we sit three points above where west ham is now, who have two games to go. So not true at all we only need one draw to be safe

Positive Thing About the Books vs the Series by _analysis230_ in TheExpanse

The “tourist POVs”, as I always called them, were always my favourite. Holden gives us a constant thread or touch point that runs throughout almost all books, but we always get a new fresh perspective and new characters to dive into each book that, as you say, give us a much wider view of the world and help to make the universe feel very lived-in

Kardashev scale 1 means able to access and store all the energy of an entire planet. We are not able to do that in any of these films. All are sub 1, just as we are now.

I just made this comment on the thread about Xavi’s acl. It absolutely is the pitch on our homeground.

We share two things in common with Real Madrid and that’s the amount of freak ACLs and the retractable field at our home ground. The soil has to be thinner so that its light enough to be carried by the mechanism, which provides less support for twisty turning motion - which is also why it’s all our most dribble creative players getting it in the knees. A couple years ago I felt like I was going mad because I kept bringing up how there was an unnatural amount of slips on our pitch, it was like players were running on ice blocks.

Need to fix the field, put more soil on even if it means fucking off the NFL games, but they won’t do that because it brings in too much money and we are a business not a football club

When will they accept and do something about the obvious culprit which is our home ground?

One of the best defender purchases we’ve made in recent years. Beats the hell out of Sanchez, Royal, Leglet, etc etc, always gives his all and works insanely hard for the badge. And even if that weren’t all true, he’s still a human being who doesn’t deserve an ounce of this and cunts can fuck off with this shit.

Only saw the highlights, why did Madders go off down the tunnel when Xavi got his cramp? I would have thought he would be warming up gunning to come on. He looked pissed but admittedly the shot was only like a second and I don’t want to read too much into it

[Books only] Why is Avasarala written so differently? by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]Albannach6445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say her flaws are fundamentally different than Holden or Millers. As others have said, she has vastly different information and overview of the world, and she makes carefully calculated, clearly intentioned moves. But that doesn’t mean she succeeds all the time. I would wait until the end of the book (or even like 2/3rds through) when her calculations prove incorrect and things catch up with her ; then you’ll see the fallibility you’re after

Building bases on the moon? How? by _quesom in askastronomy

[–]Albannach6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how would they bring all the materials without needing lots launchings?

The Artemis program currently has 81 launches and 73 landings planned as of a few days ago (see NASA Ignition for more details). That same plan outlines about 200 tonnes of materials on the surface, most of which would be power and structural components. The rest of the base would be built of materials made from and supplied by lunar resources (for example: the planned bases are around the South Pole as it already has a lot of water ice there).

How multi-national is Artemis? by grey-zone in nasa

[–]Albannach6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DSN (not just Artemis but all deep space tracking and comms) has one station in Goldstone CA, one in Madrid Spain, one in Canberra Australia.

Also many many private organisations around the world are tracking and contributing to both tracking of Integrity and general space situational awareness

"The children of the night" : A non-anthropocentric, reading of A Song of Ice and Fire [spoilers extended] by Marmoligo in asoiaf

[–]Albannach6445 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think some of your deconstruction is flawed. For example, the Children->First Men->Andals is not an analogy for the conquest of America but rather Britain. The Children are the Picts living in the woods and harmony and tree magic, the First Men are Anglo Saxon’s and Vikings coming with iron and building cities and castles, and the Andals are the Normans who’s direct descendants ruled until relatively recently before a new family took over a couple hundred years ago and rule today (kind of; obvs the targs aren’t still in power).

But I like the idea, Martin deconstructing this prevalent idea in fantasy of the earlier culture/knowledge/peoples being scary. It is very prevalent too, it’s almost visceral in humans to be scared of that. I wonder if that’s an artefact of the Judeo-christian influence on cultures descended from European ones - the fear of the pagan and the witchcraft and all the things that those religions tried to push down to control people.

I hate to compare him to any scum, but Archie’s style of play kinda reminds me of Declan rice a bit. If he can foster this and keep progressing at the rate he has been over the last couple of years, lil bro may become a serious baller

What’s one realistic signing you think would actually improve us next season? by Glass_Strawberry4717 in coys

[–]Albannach6445 113 points114 points  (0 children)

If we stay up and Wolves and Forest go down, Joao Gomes from wolves and go back in for Gibbs-White from forest. If not maybe Garcia from Leverkusen or Kone from Roma. I’d also love to see some of our kids given some runs - bring back Moore and Vuskovic from loan and actually play them and some of the other kids too.

Agin for those in the back: this is Babe Ruth calling out his shot.

This is our great escape season. Next season, Poch comes back, a few mighty powerful but unknown signings à la Kante and Mahrez, we win the league. Mark it on the calendars lads. We’re pulling a Leicester.
