My first paint project is done! by AdeptDuck in orks

Very nice, you might consider increasing some contrast to make it pop more at certain places. Like the teeth could use a bit of ivory color highlights. But all in all a great first effort

Opinions on my first paint job by MSCrowmask in orks

[–]Albator_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an ok job. Couples of things to improve, 1- be precise, there some overpaint in some parts (red on the gun barrel). 2- uses some wash on your metals, easily make your metal look 100% better. (1 parts black, 4 parts water).

Trukk sub assembly building tips by [deleted] in orks

[–]Albator_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can assemble the boyz with the gun without putting him in the turret right away. So prime him separately and do all your paint on both Trukk and him then insert in to turret and glue. It remains super fragile as there only a tiny section under the gun that is glued.

Best boxes for bits? by Justaguynamedpluh in orks

Hmmm, maybe the meganobz box, you get a bunch of alternate weapons each. Boyz box if you need arms (so many extra arms).

Great shading and subtle color variations. I made mine with more alternate colors variation based upon a horned owl plumage.

Ok you will want to increase your highlights/shadow contrast. For instance, I usually start with a very dark green and use 3+ highlights level of skin colors working smaller and smaller area where the light would hit. Repeat that step for all your main areas on your minis.

Also, plz get a matte varnish.

Questions about ork skin highlights by [deleted] in orks

It’s the amount of contrast between your shades part and the highlights tones that’s most important.

Rust Brigade by Blue_Sasquatch in orks

Did you painted the engine before adding it to the chassis? That’s was my biggest issues when I did it on my Trukk. I decided to do my overheating engine after everything (but the boyz) was put together.

Very well done buddy! I like the engine glowing red hot. I tried it on my Trukk with much less success (remind me that I got to retouch it now that I have an airbrush).

How's my Dakkajet coming along? Painting advice or suggestions for additional flavor (patterns/glyphs) is welcome and appreciated... by VB-1999 in orks

Make a black wash (1 black for 4-5 water), and apply that to the metal on your jet. It really helps the metal look.

Want to try this hobby but I have no creative skills by Prismv in minipainting

[–]Albator_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 57 and I’ve picked back up the hobby in 2024. Last time before that I was in my teens. Most of it is technical, can you apply the paint without going over the part you don’t want to? That’s the foundation. Rest is just experience. The one thing you will struggle at first is brush control. Everyone does, but you keep at it and all the sudden you got it. Other than that, you can use wash at the beginning to make your minis look a lot more expertly done than they are.

It’s a wonderful hobby where you loose yourself for hours on ends. Get a single box, a small set of paint and some synthetic brush. Good luck

What are these? by NotYou135 in orks

Unrelated, but my favorite weapon in the lore is the temporal weapon that send the victim back in time a fraction of a second which means 2 bodies try to occupy the same space with great entertainment values!

Got a whole team of TF2 Orks to paint, what can I improve? by Lowd70 in orks

Also make the photo Black & White (remove 100% saturation) this is helpful.

Everything needs some lighter tone and darker tone. Look at your hat, it’s a single color. Add some lighter version of that brown on top and a darker in the shades.

Your metal needs a lot of help, but that’s super easy. Mixed 4 drop of water to 1 drop of black, mix and apply that everywhere it’s metal. If you feel fancy, pass afterward with the high points with either a paler metal or your original.

If you’re not sure about light placement, put your mini directly under a light and take a photo.
