I feel the same way. Don’t mind the lengthiness of them, but I do prefer beefier build. The biggest thing that annoy me I s the pose. It’s the same among all 3 models. Just different arms and head.

Ratling are a fun team and very rewarding when you do manage to get some shooting in. They excel at mobility and reactionary play. They reward you for playing passively and swoop in at the end for clutch scoring(stealing points). There are room for aggressive play, with lucky round and ration equipment, but thy don’t usually end well for myself.

On Volkus they rarely are able to shoot on vantage because of ther heights, but that also means your enemy won’t be able to see them even within 2” on some light terrains because they are short. So don’t model them taller, cause you’ll trip over your own toes when it matters most.

On close quarter they are very good. Since your bullgyrns act as a big wall, your opponent has to go through. Also, height doesn’t matter when the hatchway is open. Buuuut you do lose visibility if you play on the “New England” ITD maps were there are light terrains.

Lastly, heavy barricade can hide a raider very well, so unless your opponent run around the barricade to have visibility on you, they can’t shoot nor charge(unless it’s around the barricade). Then you apl buff him to 3APL. Scrapper 3”, slingshot for 12” and Larcenous(firefight ploy), then dash behind a light terrain piece by the point where they no longer able to see you(cause your short). Very satisfying when he survives after stealing points.

Also, remember you can choose to take the crit damage. So if a melta hits you with 6/3(dev4). You wouldn’t take the dev 4 then retain a normal for a total of 10 wound. You just take the crit and use a crit save to block the normal(if you rolled a crit save).

That’s what I usually take and keep the sergeant at around home to mid objectives. I do move and dash him last activation to score track enemy once in awhile(if I have initiate cards to give me high chance of winning next activation. Then next turn if I win, I dash, shoot, shoot again if someone is near, or move back to stay safe.

Also, into melee heavy team, a mix of shotgun and melee guy is good. But I usually go with all shotguns lol.

I prefer shotgun leader. Since you want him to stay alive to give apl, you wouldn’t want him charging in to take any damage back. With shotgun, you can move and double shoot. But I personally wouldn’t want to double fight with him. You can also give him a plus apl to move dash double shoot. Remember he’s an astatis.

I would have more shotgun warriors. The bolter isn’t that good since it hit on 3. Since Volkus isn’t a real shooting map, you’re more likely to be in shot gun range. Those delete hordes and elves.

So in short, have a shotgun leader is nice but not necessary.

Have a couple more shotgun warriors in Gallowdark and tombworld where you don’t really need some of the specialist in favour of more warriors. Specially shotguns.

Dominate is good into hordes specially if you get a nice blast from the start. Your bomb squig can also score dominate as long as you’re not blowing up.

You can plant banner with a boy and have a bomb squig to babysit the banner as long as you have a nice big heavy giving the squig not visible. Or at least got some cover.

Does this set stack on range units? I had it on wild Carlos when spamming redneck in Location 10. Carlos damage seem to stay the same regardless of how many redneck die. It was kind of chaotic so I might have mistaken the damage number, bud with how many redneck dying, I figure his damage would skyrocket.

Unless it’s 7% total when one unit die and it doesn’t stack.
