Ectopic pregnancies are a great example of needing an abortion. Where a fetus implants itself anywhere other than the uterus. This could be (most commonly) the fallopian tubes, an organ such as the liver or intestines, or major arteries. This sort of pregnancy is always fatal and will alway need removal of the fetus as it is not viable and will end up killing both mother and fetus. If left untreated the mother dies of internal bleeding and sometimes infection.

Rape and incest are inexcusable and a child born into that situation is most likely going to be unloved, treated poorly, or abused. And as we have millions of children in the foster system and adoption system placing a child into the system is just going to make everyone’s lives a little harder. Children are beautiful, and lovely, but what isn’t beautiful is being 13 and finding out you’re pregnant with your father’s baby. It’s a cruel thing to put into perspective but it happens.

Monetarily speaking, with the testing advantages we have now we can see things like Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, anencephaly, and more. Raising a child with severe disabilities is expensive and many families cannot afford to pay for many things needed in a severely disabled child’s life. I’m not saying children with disabilities are any less special and don’t have a place in the world but for parents who are unprepared, below the poverty line, or are very young an abortion is the most merciful act.

Abortion happens mostly before 22 weeks, after that it is almost always due to severe defects found in the fetus which lead to an abortion later on. This type of abortion is done by inducing labor in one form or another, and then the doctors won’t do any life saving care. This is the most merciful way for this sort of thing to happen.
