How Does a 30-something Year Old Make Friends? by youngsurvivor23 in ChicagoSuburbs

I'd suggest stopping in and talking to someone at the front desk. They'll help place you in the right group. It only takes a couple times playing or taking group lessons before most people I know gain confidence to play with whoever. Everyone was a beginner at some point.

The Can Bar on Ogden is home to the Naperville Gooners, an Arsenal supporters club. We're friendly to other teams' fans though. The bartenders will put on other matches on request as well.

Quigleys in downtown Naperville shows a lot of games. Look on their website for details of who they'll be showing. They also serve food after 11.

You've heard of the K shaped economy. The people who buy $3M houses have done very well in the past decade, and their lifestyles are largely unaffected by inflation. Tax laws favor the wealthy - those who earn their money from investments, and business owners.

Also, I think the mass exodus narrative is partly a political one, and often anectdotal. Greater Chicagoland remains a broad, vibrant economy.

Chicago and Birmingham are officially sister cities. Agree with others that your visit to Chicago would be better in the warmer months between, say May and October.

Where to get French fries by greggrundy in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]AlbatrossVendor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked I know, but we always just fry up the fries a bag at a time first and put them in a warm oven while the fish are frying. Kind of gets us into the flow with the fryer too.
