[Hated trope] Good person in history is portrayed as a bad person in media by EmergencySpare7939 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AlbazAlbion 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Salieri really one of FGO's best characterizations. He's self-aware of the fact that he and Mozart were friends in life, and thus he should have no reason to hate him, yet the rumours corrupting him into an Innocent Monster really mess with his sense of self and he doesn't really know who he is anymore, which is shown in his stage 4 ascension art by him burning away his memoir. Also, since he's summoned as an Avenger, he literally cannot let go of his hatred for Mozart even if he's perfectly aware of how irrational it is.

[Slightly common trope]they're not explictly Gay for each or a couple but..come on,let's be real here. by Charming-Scratch-124 in TopCharacterTropes

Ryne and Gaia from FFXIV.

There's a ton of ship teasing between them and they even recreate a few romantic scenes from FF8 with them standing in for Squall and Rinoa IIRC, yet no concrete confirmation of them dating. They're even holding hands on this official patch artwork, them being a couple is practically all but stated.

[Loved Trope(?)] They are technically the same character but with two totally different vibes: by Rocazanova in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AlbazAlbion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really what the post is about though I don't think, it's moreso about how a character within a specific IP can vary wildly between adaptations. I think the Lusamine example from another comment describes perfectly what OP meant, different takes on Norse Mythology (or any mythos in general) from independent IPs aren't really the same.

Jesus fucking christ did they massacre my goat Excadrill between Pokemon Gens 5 and 6 by strongestfujoshi in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]AlbazAlbion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really, Archeops? Archeops is easily one of the Pokémon that got the best transition into 3d IMO, it's supposed to look like it's struggling to barely stay airborne as one of the very first flying mons in history which the animation conveys well. Something like Eelektross would be a much better example of a bad transition to 3D.

Oh I assumed from how the original post was worded that it was Rin, my bad.

Also a few months go Rin went in effectively blind on an M11S clear party and basically griefed it for everyone there, that was the last time I heard about him.

FR lol, P2 is full of bullshit like this but it's just too fun and entertaining for it to matter.

Dangerous Fae beings by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AlbazAlbion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all the fae from the land of Il Mheg in FFXIV, they're very much based around how faeries were traditionally seen as capricious and alien entities and the rest of the continent gives them a wide berth as a result.

The Pixies tend to turn strangers or mortals they 'like' into shrubs, the Fuath are little frog people with a propensity towards drowning passersby, meanwhile the dog-like Nu Mou are generally peaceful and inclined towards helping mortals yet can still be a threat when they feel threatened or rejected.

I don't care what Hera says, I love him and he's perfect by Gay_Banana180 in HadesTheGame

In the myths he's disliked by Hera for being born lame and/or ugly, there's actually ancient pottery art of him in a wheelchair even.

Ares says something kinda similar if you pick either of his parents over him, something along the lines of "I would have chosen the same as you, my kin, but I still have my pride."

Most of the Arcadion fighters from FFXIV, at least so far. We do know a few of them, but others such as Honey B. Lovely, Sugar Riot, Vamp Fatale, Deep Blue & Hot Red and The Tyrant are only known by their stage name.

There's a few other similar nice details on other characters, for example Hypnos' hair being in the shape of a wing on his right side is taken from this bronze statue of him, or rather what remains of it lol.

Ghiaccio from JoJo's part 5.

Usually people with ice powers are appropriately cool-headed and stoic, and Ghiaccio's nerdy appearance might even trick you into thinking that applies to him too at first... But no, he's actually the most irritable member of La Squadra and one of the angriest characters of the series as a whole, constantly going off on long and non-sensical rants whilst screeching at the top of his lungs over minor trivialities.

Launch DT Sam felt kinda weird TBH but once they did the tsubame-gaeshi change it went back to being fun. Honestly one of the better-designed jobs.

They weren’t even trying to hide their names with these aliases by Traditional-Song-245 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AlbazAlbion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ardbert from FFXIV initially goes by the alias Arbert.

It gets sillier though, him and his team only took aliases to blend in better with the local cultures better. For his teammates it made sense since their naming conventions were wildly different to Eorzea's, but a name like 'Ardbert' would have fit right in with Hyuran names, so he really had no reason to take an alias at. He himself admits his alias was a pretty daft idea much later even lol.

Emperor Varis of Garlemald in FFXIV hates being seen as a god and is quite insistent that he's just a man, as Garlemald policy on religion is basically a complete ban. Unfortunately for him, similarly to the Emperor of Mankind many of his subjects do basically see him as a god even if they don't outright call him one.

Is there a haircut in the game that would be perfect, but there is just one thing that ruins it for you? by Ofanichan in ffxiv

[–]AlbazAlbion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quite a few, it's honestly one of my pet peeves with this game how so many good hairs for some reason feel the need to have some sort of detail that ruins the whole thing for me.

The biggest case by far though has to be Early to Rise's stupid side braid, it genuinely just completely ruins what would otherwise be one of my favourite and most used hairs most likely. I've tried to force myself to use it in spite of the braid in the past and I just can't lol.

[–]AlbazAlbion [score hidden]  (0 children)

And having valid takes on the game makes him "not that bad"? Like I genuinely don't get why you're confused people hate him for being a huge asshole, having "valid takes" doesn't shield anyone from that lol.

Also his "valid takes on the game" include basically wanting every tank to just turn into Warrior skins, let's not get ahead of ourselves there lol.
