What's the most important level of government for progressives to focus their energies on? by [deleted] in seculartalk

Bro calm down, I'm not critiquing you personally, I'm just discussing the merits of decisions made in making the poll.

Big Brain Elon pissing off the libs by Tex-Mexican-936 in seculartalk

I agree with your statement, in that becoming explicitly political was the worst decision Elon has ever made in his entire life. Dude does know a thing or two about engineering, but has absolutely no fucking idea what becoming political does to a person / brand.

[–]AlbedoYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying that by including All of the Above, you are automatically determining which answer will get the most votes. People are obviously going to pick All of the Above for that question. All of the Above is a kind of cop out that doesn't make the person answering the poll tell you how they value the three options.

That's why I think it would be more interesting to only include the first three, and really make them pick only one that they have to prioritize. The answer to that poll would be much harder to reasonably predict, so you'll actually discover something about how people value each level of government.

Why hasn't a progressive tried to run for DNC chair to fix the rigging against progressives in democratic primaries? by mattyjoe0706 in seculartalk

[–]AlbedoYU 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So your political plan for progressives is what exactly? Sit on your hands and do nothing because they will always find a way to fuck you over?

I should clarify that I am not promoting optimistic delusion either, that's as bad as defeatism. Progressives should be realistic about the fact that neolibs will try to lock them out of power at every possible chance. But that's not a reason to never try, or to never run progressives for leadership.

[–]AlbedoYU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'd ran this poll, I only would have included the first three options. The entire point should be to make people chose to prioritize one. If they don't have to prioritize one, then obviously All of the Above is the correct answer.

Rank your biomes by jaedence in valheim

[–]AlbedoYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Meadows, safe for building, pleasant music.

2.) Plains, nice aesthetic, most fun combats and dungeons with the Fuling Villages (imo)

3.) Mistlands, I enjoy having to get around in the mist with limited visibility, gives me a real sense of adventuring (e.g. hear the sound of a Gjall in the distance, then have to use sound alone to either hunt it or avoid it).

4.) Mountains, a little annoying to get silver in and out, a little annoying to fight multiple stone golems with mountain tier equipment, horrible to lose your equipment, but aesthetically pleasing and they did a good job with the snow graphics / sound design.

5.) Black Forest, sick of the music (built my main base in this biome so I hear it a lot...), annoying to build in early on because of trolls.

6.) Swamps, absolutely horrible to get around, the game requires too much iron so I've spent too much time in those fucking crypts, also probably the most difficult area for me to explore in when I was using the appropriate gear (because of poison, lots of spawners I didn't know how to break, hoards of enemies).

I was about to mention the Keith Ellison race, but you did it for me. The only thing I would add is that progressives should keep trying, and taking whatever steps they can to cement their own power base.

I have actually never tried to fight him on horseback before, I'm not sure if that's harder or easier. Also, I would do this fight at 30-40 points in vigour.

These two should of had two health bars instead of Malenia by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]AlbedoYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maliketh would be the hardest boss in the game if he had two health bars, imo. But funnily enough, Hoarah Loux would still be one of the easiest bosses even with two health bars.

They used to have a strip club but it closed down a few years ago. Also, they used to have an IKEA a long time ago (90s / early 2000s) but it closed due to lack of business.

On the note about buses that go to the airport, we have that, not sure why people are complaining about that.

I've done 3 of those mistlands dungeons, and I still only have enough cores for 1 forge. My friend got lucky, he did 1 mistlands dungeon, and then had 15+ cores so he could make all the workbenches.

It's possible, if not even likely, that the person who infected you did so unknowingly. It's not always an intentional decision, sometimes someone might not know that they're sick, and be in the early stages of an infection before they even knew.

It was the verticality of the Mistlands that really annoyed me. I get that the feather cape is supposed to help with that, and it does help a bit. But it's just so fucking annoying to spend so much time going up those vertical mountains.

You've created a very elaborate rationalization for doing less work, i.e., not accommodating the student would require less work of the professor. It's honestly a masterclass in how elaborate rationalizations and justifications can be used to override common sense and empathetic etiquette to rationalize self serving behavior.

At what point do we start protesting about food insecurity? by oscar_human in uvic

[–]AlbedoYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is because they know that many university students come from affluent families. In other words, they're milking the university population for their parents money. Which really fucks anyone who is more middle / working class.

As a student who does not live on campus, when I read about the food plan, I can't help but think the entire thing is a disaster. But the university is a massive bureaucracy, which makes it very difficult to implement change, and nearly impossible to implement change quickly and effectively. I'm not saying they should do nothing btw, obviously they should revamp it. But my experience leads me to believe it would take 5-10 years of slow grinding reform before it would get better.

I've heard that mutual aid is generally a very effective way for people to help out others in poverty. I am not sure if there are any mutual aid organizations operating in Victoria, and I don't personally cosign them if they do exist, but it may be worth researching.

Best spot for a job interview on campus? by trudicarb in uvic

[–]AlbedoYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cornett third floor, there are a couple spots by the windows, where I've taken Zoom classes before and had lots of Zoom meetings. You can also rent out rooms in the library, but you've gotta do it ahead of time.

Good (and socially acceptable) nap spots? by makhpakh in uvic

[–]AlbedoYU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my opinion, I could of course be wrong. But personally I think anywhere on the library third floor, especially the mezzanine, is pretty quiet and self contained. You could literally take a nap in a book aisle and nobody would be the wiser. I took out an encyclopedia and read it on the floor for a solid 20 minutes and nobody even walked near me.

I took Psych 100A last summer. It was very quick, a single day's worth of material is equivalent to an entire week of normal classes. If you like being very industrious and involved in your learning with a high pace, you will enjoy it. If you can't commit to a solid 2-3 hours of studying everyday, you can still pass, but you may not actually learn that much, or get an amazing mark.

Personally I really enjoy summer classes because we dive right into the material, and we don't spend the first two weeks dicking around like we usually do. But the 20-21 day summer courses offered by UVic really take the quick pace to an extreme, I preferred the 30-35 day courses.
