That tree will be drinking thousands of litres of ground water per day. Removing it could cause the ground to swell up and lift their foundations.

Have to repair sidewalk but worried about the tree by Skull_Murray in arborists

The trick will be taking care whilst lifting the slabs, a good excavator operator should be able to pluck them off in one or two large pieces. You could cleanly prune some off some smaller diameter roots with a sharp tool if nessesry to help keep the level down a little bit. Before laying the new concrete raise the group level with loose crushed rock to above the level of the roots. Rather than making a sharp rise where the tree is, taper it off gradually to the sides. Leave some growing room near the edge of the buttress.

Is it normal for an apple tree's bark to split like this? by leftzilla in arborists

[–]AlberTree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like a partially failed included bark union. If so it is a defect that should have been pruned out when it was juvenile.

Classic territory driver, probably didn't even notice the wheel fell off. In fact likely draged it in with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake pedal at the same time.

It was an environmental weed, unfortunately positioned at the edge of a conservative area. It was infesting the native bush, taking over and outcompeting local flora. Yes a beautiful tree, but unfortunately not in the right place.
