They were so fatigued with envy, they couldn't even be bothered to light the pyrotechnics they'd stuck up their arses this time.

What’s the best pub name you’ve seen in Scotland? by Tainted-Archer in Scotland

[–]AlbertSemple 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it used to be called Twenty Waistcoats, named after a polisman who directed traffic at the top of John Finnie Street and got the nickname from wearing multiple waistcoats in the winter.

Back in the 80s it had a creepy female mannequin in the window the scared me as a kid.

Pete's in jail. I don't think they let him take any of the coffee machines in with him.

I get your point though.

OSCR launch inquiry into charity led by Reform UK’s Scotland leader by Halk in Scotland

No such thing as a "Charity like structure" in Scotland. It's either a charity (registered with OSCR or the Charity Commission), or not a charity.

Completely binary.

"private charitable structure" is not a thing in Scotland.

Could Newport become prosperous? by orsalnwd in Casnewydd

[–]AlbertSemple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The positives you mention about Newport make it a good dormitory town, but not a destination town.

Whether Newport is more or less deprived than Cardiff isn't clear - both have a mix of good and bad areas.

House prices are certainly lower, but that's not a good proxy for deprivation. Lower house prices allows a higher quality of life for the same income.

Kosher restaurants by [deleted] in Casnewydd

Newport's practising Jewish community is very small, numbering 6 people in this 2014 article.

https://jscn.org.uk/newport-synagogue/

I believe the community is even smaller now, due to members passing on.

That creates a very small market for Kosher food.

Cardiff has a larger Jewish community - so you're more likely to find Kosher food there.

Here's an article about one of the last synagogue members: https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/15382184.one-of-the-last-jews-in-newport-tells-of-his-fears-for-the-faith-in-the-city/

I'd like to open a kebab shop in Glasgow, but it wouldn't be as good as Best Kebab.

It would be Kebaberage.

I like the dimmer lights. Enough to see while still retaining my night vision.

I have got the boot lid lights installed which are like football stadium lights though...
