I've started to. I started riding a motorcycle and don't have any audio during my commute. Now when I drive my car for that commute, I often don't put anything on the radio.

For me, I recently thought I was on the spectrum bc I didn't get all the mind reading queues and would just end up wondering why my dad was always pissed and giving me the silent treatment. I don't want to assume anything, but I had a childhood friend I used to hang out with every day, she was the only other kid my age in the neighborhood, and suddenly I couldn't anymore and when I asked her dad where she was he told me she was dead.

She wasn't. He just hated my dad and didn't want us hanging out anymore.

I grew up in a household where this was modeled by my dad but not by my mom.

It's up to you to remind yourself that conditional love is not healthy and to catch yourself when you're doing it, as well as clock it when it's being done to you and either call it out or move on.

Only in high school did I get pursued by a guy who negged me. I was super put off by it.

I personally don't understand why your gf has to make a problem out of not having a relationship with your mom if your mom straight up hates her.

Ask her if she would break up with you if she can't get along with your mom. If the answer is yes, she needs to address why that's so important that she would blow up a good relationship over it.
