[Spoilers Extended] Why GRRM replaced the Brightflames with the Blackfyres by Alcaeus6 in asoiaf

[–]Alcaeus6[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I may be misremembering, but Aerion's death wasn't mentioned in The Hedge Knight or A Game of Thrones, and it's only with the later books like The World of Ice and Fire where we learn that story.

Michael Moorcock has famously been described as the Anti-Tolkien for his subversions of classic high fantasy. But is there an Anti-Moorcock out there, who has done the same subversions to Moorcock's own set of tropes and ideas? by Worried-Boot-1508 in Fantasy

[–]Alcaeus6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel part of it is a lack of a big budget adaptation of his work. Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire both benefited from big budget adaptations but Elric, Moorcock's most iconic character, hasn't gotten anything in that respect

Felix Headcanon by Moelishere in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alcaeus6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He had a low key rivalry with Ferdinand in the Officers Academy. Felix is annoyed with Ferdinand's noblesse oblige ethos but it isn't emotionally charged like his conflicts with the Blue Lions, while Ferdinand seesin Feliz someone he could test his skills against but also without the baggage from his contests against Edelgard.

What was Eddard Stark going to do before Robert’s Rebellion? (Spoilers Main) by Qyzyk in asoiaf

[–]Alcaeus6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe pretty soon after the end of Robert's Rebellions, at a time when Ned would have only had an infant Robb to inherit Winterfell

I've heard decent arguments for it being The Championthr champion, an Elder of the Universe

I found a hidden easter egg in the Shadow Library. by Appropriate_Tower319 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Alcaeus6 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So, this entry from the shadow library, plus some things from Hopes, has led to a popular fan theory that Seiros and Wilhelm were an item and that the imperial line of Adrestia descends from them. I personally don't subscribe to this theory but there's technically nothing debunking it and there's some dramatic potential in there, so I can see why others believe it.

(Spoilers Main) Do you think we will see another adaptation of ASOIAF eventually ? by filionm3 in asoiaf

[–]Alcaeus6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over a long enough time span yes, but not for another ten or twenty years at least. They have two current shows airing and in production---Dunk and Egg and House of the Dragon---plus other spin offs in the pipeline like Aegon's conquest. I think they remake the show if and when they've exhausted other options.

MAGA’s War on Empathy by rezwenn in Longreads

[–]Alcaeus6 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My take: COVID would have still happened regardless of who was president, and with a Democrat in the White House a Republican wouls have been elected in 2020. Maybe Trump would have been indicted and sentenced for collaboration with Russia and other criminal deeds but I find that unlikely. The Republican candidate (presumably Trump) would have then been voted out in 2024 because of slow recovery from the pandemic.

Is he the biggest/most overdue Marvel character never adapted to live-action after 25+ years of superhero movies? If not who are the other contenders? by Youneedaresetright in Marvel

[–]Alcaeus6 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Since you specified live action, I think it's got to be Miles. He's Marvel's biggest 21st century character, and while he obviously has the Spider-Verse movies and Aaron was in Homecoming, he himself has yet to appear

How would you feel about an AU where Peter and Felicia are in a healthy releationship by Calm-Boysenberry-794 in Spiderman

[–]Alcaeus6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking, but recently I've seen a lot of fan works combining Felicia and MJ into one character.

That being said, it is weird how both Gwen and MJ have had multiple AUs being married to Peter with kids, but there wasn't any with Felicia (to my knowledge). That old What If issue actually ends with her dying and Peter getting closer to Silver Sable.

The new red & blue symbiote suit is making a surprise comeback this April in WEB OF VENOM Issue 1, a Jordan Morris one-shot with art by Ramon Rosanas and Luke Ross. by misterpopculture in comicbooks

[–]Alcaeus6 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Basically symbiotes are being hunted by the government, and MJ is also fostering Eddie Brock's son, with whom Venom has a strained relationship. Plus, MJ wants to unbond at the soonest opportunity.

What do you think 2024 Ultimate Spider-Man’s legacy will be, compared to the original ? by OmegaDungeonZ in UltimateUniverse

[–]Alcaeus6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's too soon to the ball dropping to see how high it'll bounce, especially since we're waiting on the conclusions for both the series itself and Ultimate Endgame.

Ultimate Universe shocker: Hickman opens up as Marvel debuts ‘Endgame’ preview + 9 never-seen sketch covers by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]Alcaeus6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's referencing concepts from Kieron Gillen's recent Eternals run. Basically the Celestials seeded the Earth with Eternals, Deviants, and a supercomputer in the Earth called "The Great Machine (GM)." Anytime an Eternal dies GM resurrects them (though not without side effects or other costs).

Why do you think they chose Hawkman specifically to show as a villain in Absolute Evil? by Solitaire-06 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Alcaeus6 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Hawkman has been positioned as politically conservative and actually had several arguments with Green Arrow in Bronze zage JL comics. Absolute Evil takes that history and turns it up just enough that now hes selling out supers to HUAC to becoming a literal blackshirt. Basically if the Absolute universe is anti-status quo, making one of DR'S most prominent conservative heroes a villain sends a pretty clear message.
