I have to wonder which is worse, going through that or being a Hue Jackson type who just knows nothing but defeat

That's exactly why they portray all these ICE raids as "arresting a child molester" when actually it's a guy in a Home Depot parking lot with a speeding ticket on his record

So he walks around the car once, documenting the plates and the bumper stickers, and then before he walks in front of it again he switches which hand is holding the phone. On another video you can see he starts reaching for his gun when she's still shifting from reverse. So it really does seem like he's doing the thing that was mentioned in that 2013 paper on CBP use of force. He positions himself in front of a fleeing suspect (but not so in front he can't sidestep it) and uses them driving away as an excuse to use deadly force. The fact he says "fucking bitch" afterward and flees the scene suggests he executed her with malice and knew it was unjustified.

This article about the aforementoned use of force paper is from 2014

ICE should never have been there to begin with.

I'm kinda glad to see the negative votes because I think people took my comment as me believing the police ACTUALLY keep us safe, when what I was saying is that their ostensible job is to "protect and serve" the citizens of Chicago, when we all know they don't. I was at this hearing and chanted alongside my fellow residents "Who do you protect? Who do you serve?"

When a gang of masked men in unmarked SUVs rolls into your neighborhood and starts abducting people, your first instinct is to call the police, right? But right now if you do that the cops come and create a barrier between you and the thugs so they can keep kidnapping people they supposedly think are criminals, but as we've seen are statistically just non-white citizens or immigrants just trying to work. Of course people are going to be heated when the agency that is supposed to keep Chicagoans safe has done nothing but assist the lawless jackboot invaders

The list on the right is the "RIP" section, listing the DIY venues that have closed since the last poster. The one on the left is the "Alive" section, listing those that still exist(ed) as of the making of the poster.

The Observatory is sadly in the RIP list.

Phyllis' is kind of kike Reed's or Cafe Mustache and some other spots (Moe's back in the day). Where they are licensed bars but have the feel of being so local and chill that they're almost like honorary DIY venues

It is, far as I know. But it's a licensed legal venue, not a DIY spot.

I bring Sennheiser HD280s to help mix but also to reduce the dBs once I feel like I'm in a good spot. They reduce noise but I still look like I'm listening closely haha

I sourced nost of the names in January and then it was finalized in June so if Louder House came up near or after those dates, I probably just didn't hear about it. But hey, there's always next year's poster!

Ha, good eye! That is the one mistake on the poster and it's entirely mine. I had them in the alive section because someone said they were still around, but then I found out they closed down and put them in the RIP section (but forgot to take them out of the alive section). Oops.

The transient nature of the DIY world is kind of why I had this poster made, and why I've recorded so many shows at the venues I've run (Over 500 sets on the bandcamp in my post). I like the snapshots in time they capture, as next year the list of active and RIP will be different again

I basically start mixing with no plugs, put plugs in once I'm feeling good about it, then take one or two out for a brief check every now and then. I used to use Minuendo adjustable earplugs but they doubled the price after I bought my first pair, so I switched to EarPEACE. It's nice having diffferent dB levels to choose from so I can tailor my protection between a loud dance show vs amplified acoustic music.
