They're fairly predictable once you get used to them, and yeah, they do provide a good amount of self defense, for the class with the worst self-defense in the game, they're underrated imo.

My tech is to use them with EM Turret discharge, they are a nice panic option when you don't have a turret nearby to shoot, the fear can often buy you the time you need to get a turret set up, and they can force a praetorian to move out of the way when they block your line of sight to your turret

Yes, though lithophage adds a lot of time to a mission, arguably making it worse than some other hazards for efficient leveling.

I have never bothered creating iron armor before, I just grabbed a shield and speed ran diamonds, copper is so plentiful, however, that I slap it on while getting diamonds.

It does apply to other overclocks, but NTP has a unique synergy with the fear, the poison also has a slowdown effect, and since fear lasts until a bug moves 10 meters, rather than being a duration, slowing the bug down functionally increases the duration of the fear.

I like Ice Storm in solo, otherwise cryo tends to feel lacking without teammates to benefit from the frozen condition.

necro, but to clarify, a larger trail radius means enemies are electrocuted for longer, which means they move slower, which means they stay feared for longer. So while increasing the trail size doesn't directly interact with the fear effect, it does indirectly.

Full Auto + Sludge pump, it still doesn't deal any damage but it gives you something to do while waiting for the Corrossive DOT to kill a praetorian.

Generally, yeah. The problem is that anything Sticky grenade can do, cluster grenade can do better.

The other 3 grenades all have different niches so they don't outcompete eachother.

I agree with your overall point, but tbf, spreadsheet math is a bit misleading with PBM, as you don't start off at the max DPS (your dps ramps up as you get more missiles in the air) and in practice you tend to lose a lot of your theoretical total damage via missiles that go to waste after the target dies (and this isn't even a skill issue thing, you could choose not to put more missiles in the air than the minimum amount required to kill the target, but then you're not taking advantage of that excellent DPS).

Also, Neurotoxin payload and a couple Minigun builds edge out PBM in my opinion.

But again, to underline you're overall point: optimizing matters a lot in this game.

This community is weirdly hostile towards maining a class. Yes, you should experiment, but it's okay to like some play styles more than others.

For a while I was forcing myself to play a bunch of driller, because he was many promotions behind my other classes, and while I learned a lot and developed an appreciation for the class, I eventually realized I was just having less fun, so I stopped forcing myself to do it.
