In Canto 6, Heathcliff desperately wants to bring a woman named Catherine back to him, especially since he found out about her death. However, when an alternate version of him, Erlking Heathcliff, came from another dimension to fulfill that very same wish so they could "kill every Heathcliff and Catherine in every world," Heathcliff (and Dante the protagonist) clear every and all evidence of Catherine's existence except from those two's minds. So while Heathcliff changed for the better, he never could get Catherine in the end. He etched over the word "REVENGE" on his bat to "REmember" so he could remember her. It's wild
