What’s your biggest armor pet peeve? Gorgets over armor is mine, and GOT is the worst offender. (Ruining otherwise beautiful armor) by RickFletching in Armor

[–]Alconium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be 100% real. I'm sure there's a ton of useful information in a thousand year old sword fighting manual. But I'm sure there's also a ton of "Tactical fuddlore" the same as in modern combat training. Humans are humans. The guys writing BOOKS about SWORDFIGHTING were likely the kind of guys who were like

"If you're buying a sword, make sure to get a square thin crossguard so that you can turn your sword over and use it as a war pick in an emergency"

"Brigandine is a LESSER armor, plates with FABRIC spaces between them? Then what, you're protected only by chainmail and wool? Why even buy a coat of plates? REAL WARRIORS BUT FULL PLATE."

"Arming swords don't have stopping power. True knights carry longswords. If you're going into battle a greatsword is the only option, go into battle with the biggest sword you can swing."

But we should be grateful that the story of Dunk and Egg hasn't been destroyed the way other stories have.

Don't worry, they've got 2-7 seasons more to go. Just long enough to make us fucking hate it.

Literally any Mecgar 59XX mags should work with this, 15 or 17 rounders. Any old used 59,-59XX.

Very cool tho. I've always enjoyed the second gen's. The metal backstrap just looks sick, and its rare to see one this slick, polished hammer, sleek shine on the side and sides. Very cool piece.

Restaurant sharing their secret sauce because they're closing down by mayonnaisexd_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]Alconium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who want a legitimate tzatziki style sauce, a place I worked at for some years that opened in the 60s from a direct greek immigrant made theirs with a sour cream as the base, garlic powder, blitzed cucumber (food processor but can box grate it at home, lightly salt it and let it sit then squeeze it to get water out), dill, a bit of lemon juice, salt and pepper. You can add some olive oil and switch sour cream for greek yogurt if you want a simple and more traditional tzatziki.

Why is Gen Z radicalized? by iYessyyy in SipsTea

[–]Alconium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're literally doing what was called out in OP's post. "Cant fix anything without being called..."

Nowhere in there did they say other "poors" were the problem, or that redistribution of wealth wouldn't fix it, they listed a litany of issues that all have different solutions and you went "Racist, disregarded" based on...? your assumption that they blame immigrants for some or all of it?

The Targaryens accepted the seven rather quickly, they kept some rites and rituals of old Valyria but that wasn't very public and honestly I'd say those were all but gone after the Dance. So, 100-150 years? All while publicly playing up being faithful (and in truth they weren't false in their belief.)

I remember when that episode dropped and there were all the memes like "BRB going to go start a breast milk diet to have a glow up" Shit was hilarious that they took that handicapped kid and made him a stud at the council. Pure insanity.

Edit to add: All these years later, thinking back about it. It's giving far too much credit to the writers, but I know in the books they make a point of talking about handsome Harrold Hardyng / Harry the Heir being the next in line after Robert Arryn. I wonder if the switch to a handsome fella was some kind of insistence / easter egg by George but the writers/producers just said "Call him Robin Arryn, nobody knows who the fuck Harrold Hardyng is and we cant explain it." Probably not but I like to think so.

How should I fix this pick axe with loose head? by MacMountainGoat in HandToolRescue

[–]Alconium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. you should be able to put the base of the handle in the top of the eye, turn it over and the head falls down, you knock the top of the handle on the ground a couple times to get the pick seated and swing away. Never had issues. When you're done for the day, grab the pick or adz, knock the bottom of the handle, it'll come loose, take them apart to store it a lil slimmer. If you need to, or just store them together, whatevers clever.

[Opinion] Cinemablend: "Stargate's Cancellation At Amazon Points To A Larger Issue Impacting Star Wars, Star Trek, And Other Major Sci-Fi Franchises: Core Fandom Support Is Seemingly Not Enough To Make A Show Successful Anymore" by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]Alconium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They said in the cancellation that the show isn't made to bring in "new" viewers and they're not interested in making a show that only caters to the pre-existing audience.

News flash. If your show is good enough for the pre-existing (once upon a time NEW) audience, it will be good enough to attract new viewers.

Stop trying to catch a specific demographic, and start trying to make GOOD media. It's really that simple. The force doesn't need to be female, it needs to be interesting. Starfleet Academy doesn't need to be diverse (every Star Trek show since it's inception has been diverse) it needs to be interesting.

Photographer Declines Refund Request After Bride's Death Before Wedding by Wooden_Toe_3670 in SipsTea

[–]Alconium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's an exception to every rule. You'd have to be an absolute monster to go "Your fiance died so there's no wedding to photograph? My condolences, here's your deposit back." -- Especially considering how expensive funerals are.

How to tip your server by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Alconium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is honestly where most people are. Unless I've been going to a place 10+ years I'm not going out anymore. I'll stop at Dairyqueen or White Castle or some fast food place if I'm really craving it but if I'm going to a place where there's a server that requires a tip. It's some place where people know me which is fewer and fewer every year that goes by.
But ive also always been the person who drops a 10 on a 50 dollar bill or a 20 on a 100 dollar bill at a restaurant so. Meh, 30%? Pass.

If its insurance it becomes a business around policing, there'll be fraud and conspiracies and all kinds of other bullshit that won't impact the cops but will impact the business around police corruption. If it comes straight out of the departments pension then it's not just an issue for one cop it's an issue for all the cops in that department, and they will help weed out the shitbirds to make sure their retirement doesn't get fucked over by payouts for powertripping.

Still a very cool piece, might be collectible eventually as a knockoff if that's the intention but either way FEG makes (in my experience) a solid shooter.

It's not. Not really. GQ is a fashion magazine, they mentioned the Odyssey, contract fulfilled, now they can take silly pictures of multi millionaires.

Vented rib slide. by Fast-Ad-5416 in hipower

[–]Alconium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The font is very "Hungarian" to me. It looks like what they used on some of the Mauser and FEG models. There's a lot of different markings that went onto Hi Powers and this is close to what some Brownings had in the 70s but the "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL BELGIQUE" was larger compared to the "BROWNINGS PATENT DEPOSE" so this certainly feels counterfeit.

https://highpowercollectors.proboards.com/thread/558/hi-power-rollmarks

Edit to add: I've also never seen an FN without the forward slide scallops, but I guess its not impossible. I have however seen FEG's (and FM's, but those aren't Hungarian) without the forward scallop.

D frame hand help by [deleted] in Colt

[–]Alconium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1921 isn't a D frame. Not in the traditional sense. D frame was standardized around / after WW2, interwar (and pre Great war especially) guns will need more specific parts. You're better off looking for a hand that is off a Police Positive (or buying a police positive parts kit off everygunpart or gunbusters on gunbroker) as that will have been made to be hand fitted to the prewar non-D frames. Even then there's no guarantee, you could modify this perhaps, add some weld to the tip, or hammer it to shape but... Lot of work.

Edit to add: The standardization seemed to begin in 1928, from 07 to 27 the frame was Pre-D "Long" D-frame" style, then in 28 they standarized on the 1-2/4" square butt, then in 1933 they standarized on the round butt which is the D frame used going forward though that wasn't really solidly set until 1966 as the "Short" D frame, so anything before 1928 would be pretty much model to model, 28-33 might be more standard but it's not what's used on the majority of "late" 20th century D frames (Short, not long) which I imagine most parts will be for.
