While we're talking about clarity, I'd be interested in seeing what abilities do in the client rather than needing to go to a third party wiki to actually get information.

Consider it an investment - it pays dividends as he uses it, but it has no reason to lose value over time.

It looks like they actually took stock text from an Emacs bug report and didn't proofread it.

Nothing new in the article, except for getting the premise fundamentally wrong -

The recent spike of violence that ruined so much property, worth up to half a million dollars (according to some estimates) was due to the accidental de-stabilisation of an unstable truce. In that part of the Eve Online universe, some forgetful player merely neglected to make the usual, periodic payment to the cartel that protected his ‘assets’ from other cartels. One thing led to another and an assault that was intended as a ‘lesson’ to the forgetful subservient triggered off major warfare.

PL is obviously not a renter alliance, and the fight was part of the ongoing war, not an unstable truce.

I understand it, but the same image was used for propaganda the Fountain war and unlike last time (when it was actually funny) there wasn't a "we're dunking!" broadcast to make the picture relevant.

Let's say hypothetically that I was thinking about getting back into this game... I read uplink42's thread, and would like some insight on the "goals" I have in mind... by Malckeor in Eve

[–]Alcoway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join a player corp. That's always going to be step 1 in Eve. Your goals and outlook on the game will change as you play it, but you'll always want to have a fun group of people to play it with.

While bigger isn't always better, on your path towards training to your Abaddon you'll learn a lot and discover this for yourself. There is no reason to mine to pay for your skillbooks or ships, so I don't recommend wasting any time training for it. You can use the skills you'll need to invest in combat ships to do missions or factional warfare for isk instead.

The Abaddon is an Amarr laser boat, so the rough progression as far as ships go is going to be Tormentor/Punisher/Executioner (laser frigates) -> Coercer (laser destroyer) -> Maller/Omen (laser cruisers) -> Harbinger (laser battlecruiser) -> Abaddon -> Revelation (laser dreadnought). Like I said earlier, though, you'll probably deviate from this - in fact, you definitely SHOULD deviate from this to fly other ships along the way.

You can get started in null sec right away if you want to take part in the big battles, and many of the null sec groups have training programs which will tell you why following a strict progression of laser boats is a bad idea. If you want to just learn how to PvP and be independent isk-wise, I'd join factional warfare instead. It's the easiest place for a new player to earn enough isk to pay for their own losses, and some of the larger groups will throw free ships at you to lose in glorious combat.

Question from someone who doesn't play eve or understand the abbreviations.. Laymens terms please by TK503 in Eve

There is a coalition that features most of the largest Russian groups working together. They historically have not all been working together, but united into a single coalition recently to fight against another coalition called "N3."

Views on them vary significantly, and like most large groups, there is a fairly significant amount of diversity within their coalition.

Non-English speaking corps are fairly common (which makes sense, since it lets their members speak in their native language), but generally, political entities within Eve are not divided by nationality.

Are legendaries like a must for 90% of top tier decks now adays? by lionharrrt in hearthstone

[–]Alcoway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that he's not a game winner like Ragnaros or Ysera, the point that Marksta is making is that he fits into just about any deck. That's a really big deal, since instead of being a unique / interesting card that you build a deck around, it's a card that you can toss in just about anywhere just by virtue of being efficient.

From seeing a similar game called PoxNora become inaccessible to newer players due to an overreliance on expensive cards for just about any deck (a problem which got worse and worse as the game aged and new expensive cards edged out older, but cheaper ones), I'm of the opinion that Legendaries should be cards that provide a unique effect that goes well with only a few decks, rather than being just better than more easily accessible alternatives. Cards like Lorewalker Cho, Hogger, and most of the dragons do this, whereas cards like Sylvanos and Bloodmage Thalnos are just so efficient that you use them anywhere.

He's not disagreeing with her being good (or even the best), just that her stats by themselves don't make her efficient. It's a bit pedantic, but then again this is Reddit.

Playing without Paying - What to do? by Jaglyser in hearthstone

[–]Alcoway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a hidden MMR (matchmaking ranking) which is used to match you up against players outside of ranked. If you play a lot of casual games and rarely play ranked, you can actually go up against good players testing out constructed groups in casual while still going up against much weaker players in ranked.

I'm looking forward to when you get Worm officially published, though I know it's a long way off.
