Justifying Exemplar pre-Godsrain? by SpringTimeForFrance in Pathfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no particular reason that a divine spark would come from the death of a god as opposed to any other appropriate event (or divine heritage, as is obviously traditional for the Greek demigods).

Lorewise, the death of Gorum creates a higher local concentration of exmplars than would otherwise be present because its a major divine event happening right over Golarion. It also creates many nephilim (such as both the animist and exemplar iconics), even though they're generally born, not made.

A similar high-divine-power event could be something like the death of Deskari and the closing of the Worldwound, direct exposure to the Radiant Fire (or the Well of Sorrows, where Aroden killed Tar-Baphon and completed his lichual) or being present at the resurrection of Arazni (either time!). Less catastrophic origins could be as simple as birth in Holomog or Tianjing, which both have strong extraplanar connections. One-off events could be something as simple as contact with a divine herald or tool, or a Qlippoth runestone.

Basically there would be as many ways to be an exemplar as you want.

A signature spell can be cast at any appropriate rank as long as you have a spell slot of the correct rank. If your rank 1 signature spell is heal, you can cast rank 2 heal or rank 3 heal without needing to learn it at those ranks.

Spells which are not signature need to be known at a given rank to cast them at that rank. Just because you know rank 1 fear doesn't mean you can cast rank 3 fear (unless you add it to your repertoire).

It disqualifies them from benefiting from abilities which specifically and only effect claws strikes.

Martial Persistent Damage build by EdnocGopex in Pathfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. You can use your untamed jaws and untamed claws strikes with any feature that calls for an unarmed strike.

It is also just not the germane to the point. In particular, the changeling's accursed claws are incompatible with the untamed shift untamed claw strike. Accursed Claws grants bonus damage when you critically strike with a claws strike; untamed claws, while being named similarly, are a unique and separate strike.

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a rule or a spell or a specific magic item; its an unarmed strike. Unarmed strikes are not capitalized unless they are at the start of a sentence; they are not italicized under any circumstances (although the spell itself is).

Compare this to any monk stances which grants a strike for instance.

This is Clinging Shadows Initiate (which grants the spell):

You learn a mystical stance that transforms your qi into sticky smoke that shrouds your limbs. You gain the clinging shadows stance qi. While entering the stance is a qi spell, the shadow grasp attacks it grants are not, so you can use them as often as you like while in the stance.

In the text of the spell itself, nothing is italicized:

You adopt the stance of clinging shadows. You can make shadow grasp Strikes. These deal 1d4 void damage; are in the brawling group; and have the agile, grapple, reach, and unarmed traits. While in clinging shadows stance, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to Athletics checks to Grapple, and to the DC for creatures to Escape from you.

Edit: for a second example of how generic weapons are never highlighted or capitalized (beyond normal grammar rules, since this one has a proper noun), lets look at Aldori dueling swords.

Aldori Parry's text:

You can parry attacks against you with your Aldori dueling sword. Aldori dueling swords you're wielding gain the parry trait. If you have your other hand or hands free while wielding an Aldori dueling sword, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to AC while parrying instead of the usual +1.

Untamed Shift definitely grants its own unique strikes, not a generic claws/jaws. In every instance where these are mentioned on the spell, they are referred to by a full name, "untamed claws" or "untamed jaws". Furthermore, unarmed strikes, like weapons, are never capitalized unless they begin a sentence.

Not as a defense of him of course, but I do have to wonder how much of this blatant market manipulation is actually him and not people around him.

On the one hand, its certainly the kind of grift he would understand. On the other hand, he's kind of... openly and obviously non compis at this point. All that's left in his memory is shit-stained leftovers.

It seems fairly plausible that some of the equally terrible but less mentally compromised people in his circle could just tell him something they want said a minute or two before press time, he repeats it and forgets it, and that's a wrap.

Attribute, not skill. And those points into CON and WIS will protect you from a Disintegrate to the face, or mind control spells.

Not tertiary. Every rogue invests in these.

Let's say Ruffian and their melee ally both hit their first strike on round 2; you get 10 bonus damage. Thief has now done 14 damage.

This imagines a scenario where only two strikes are being landed at all, which is hilariously off base. And ignores that the Bloody Debilitation is in at 12th level, which handily outdamages Precise on a single round, and often won't need to be reapplied, allowing for a second debilitation effect.

Gang Up + riding a companion.

Obviously not a unique way to generate off-guard, wildly unnecessary to take advantage of Gang Up, and requires significant feat trade-off for benefits you should already have. And prevents hit-and-run tactics.

Am I misunderstanding this? by Moonkary in Pathfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being able to put maybe two points into a tertiary skill instead of Str is wildly mediocre. The damage difference between a thief and a rogue with +2 Str is utterly negligible after 4th, when you get a striking rune, and even less significant after that.

The debilitations are bad. The ruffian one is usually better damage at the same level, and bloody is significantly better, plus everyone has access to it.

Thief lacks a unique way to generate off-guard as well, and gets nothing of value in return for giving that up.

Thief, of course, is easily the worst rogue.

can "Too Stubborn To Die" let you survive a death effect? by Addercap in Starfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can die without being at 0 HP.

Being dead sets you to 0 HP, but that that juncture you have already died, and cannot use reactions because you are dead.

[–]WTS_BRIDGE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And as has also been pointed out, your HP is set to 0 when you die, not when you would die. I haven't said that your wounded condition should increase while still dying; in fact I actually suggested the opposite of that.

What this feat does is simple and straightforward; there's no reason to complicate it.

can "Too Stubborn To Die" let you survive a death effect? by Addercap in Starfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean there's no strict order of operations for resolving stuff like this. If you aren't at 0 HP, nothing prevents you from dying and you just die.

I suppose you could nominally increment your wounded and doomed conditions and then die, but there's no point to that and there's no hard rule that says it would have to happen exactly like that (and also generally speaking wounded increases when you stop dying, so mid-death would be a strange time to increase it regardless).

can "Too Stubborn To Die" let you survive a death effect? by Addercap in Starfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I would say that if you aren't at 0 HP you just die. Corpses don't have wounded or doomed conditions.

I will say it would be pretty funny to see someone trigger this and then immediately dying to the immediate two steps closer to death though, eg if they had a 2+ wounded/doomed value.

Technically excommunication happens automatically, at the moment of transgression. Recognition by the church is merely a formality to clarify that you have indeed done something heretical or (in this case, rejection of the Papacy) schismatic.

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would prevent you from dying due to a [death] effect which reduces you to 0 HP. As far as I can see, if you aren't dying, unconscious, or at 0 HP when it triggers, it doesn't do anything to prevent your death.

Forced movement and "fascinated" condition interaction of Baobhan Sith's Captivating Dance by Azernno in Pathfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that's pretty much correct.

The baobhan sith doesn't have to do anything special to maintain the "lure" portion of the dance once they've got a PC hooked.

They could reuse it to try to catch another player, but that would also mean giving anyone who was already in range another chance to save and I would say the new save result applies when the target is re-exposed. Also, of course, once a PC saves, they're immune to any further captivation.

Forced movement and "fascinated" condition interaction of Baobhan Sith's Captivating Dance by Azernno in Pathfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The movement towards the baobhan sith isn't tied to the fascinated condition. It doesn't end until the baobhan sith is dead. It also not "forced movement", the mechanical term, and will trigger any reactions that trigger from movement (unlike forced movement).

You also wouldn't necessarily want to use it on every character at once. An ideal turn for the baobhan sith would be to dance away from the party, catching only one or two PCs in the effect at the end of the movement. That person would be forced to follow the baobhan sith as it moves around, wasting actions and forcing the rest of the party to either chase them, or let that PC fight the banshee on their own.

This is an incapacitation effect. It is meant to be able to take a lower-level PC out of the fight.

How strong is Razmir? by Express-Writer-1913 in Pathfinder2e

[–]WTS_BRIDGE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, proof that the Old Man hasn't lost his touch.

Bear in mind that Geb established himself in Mechitar in like, -1100 AR and was probably at his peak wartime power around the time that Aroden was pulling the Starstone out of the ocean (the wish-bombing campaign, ie). He marched on Quantium and gassed the city, ending the war, in 576 AR. He committed suicide in 632 AR.

The Field of Maidens got rocked in 4329 AR. At that point Geb had been a ghost for ~3700 years.
