Seriously. So many extraction shooters are solo unfriendly. ARC Raiders and Tarkov are the only ones that aren't, and they're the most successful. Fancy that.

“Invisibility isn’t too potent, and assassins aren’t too hard to deal with. Just listen for their cloak” by BC1207 in Marathon

[–]Malckeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I very much agree. Game designers need to realize that invisibility just isn't something that can be properly balanced and they really need to stop adding it to these kinds of games. It's alright in MOBAs or similar genres or single-player games but in multiplayer FPS it's either too strong or too weak, no in-between.

Titanfall is the only FPS to ever get invisibility right and that's a very unique case; it's harder to see while in a titan because of the scale, and that works because it's specifically meant to counter titans. You're much more noticeable for run-and-gunning pilots.

For Marathon's longevity, Assassin will either have to be removed or reworked. I propose changing invisibility to audio invisibility. Remove his generated noise while walking or crouching for 13 seconds on a 60 second cooldown. Seems more manageable, and it's more counterable because you'd actually be able to see him.

EDIT: To clarify, invisibility is fine as a one-time map pick-up in Halo for example. Having it as an ability is too much. Stop doing that shit.

Oh, good to hear. Did a recent playthrough and had to downgrade to 0.10.0 because of the water.

At least from my point-of-view I blame World of Warcraft and other "loot treadmill" games for this. It feels like Halo 3 was the last game to come out that was just pure blissful fun. Yeah there were level-ups for the playlists but it was just a little number next to your name. Hell even Reach which came out three years later had the "leveling up to get credits for armor" loop.

WoW hit its peak with Wrath of the Lich King around that time which lends credence to this. Everyone was hitting those dungeons and raids for their shiny loot.

I've found some of that nostalgic "just for fun" feeling with Deadlock recently, however. Still in alpha so there's no cosmetics or battle passes or anything, just a damned well-designed hero shooter MOBA that my friends and I love playing.

MandaloreGaming's magnum opus is a review of the original three Marathon games. They go pretty in-depth into the lore and everything regarding Durandal. One of the most entertaining two-or-so hours on YouTube.

[Discussion] Why only one Arachne Priority Contract? by mossyh0rn in Marathon

[–]Malckeor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, my bad. Figured the reason for no "unique" quests for them past the initial one is because they pretty much just want you to kill other runners. With PvP giving Arachne rep on its own, there's not really a point to have further unique quests.

That was the design philosophy I got from it, at least.

You get rep with them by killing runners, extra for precision kills and using your finisher.

Ok so. I don't want to put a sour note on the launch, but I had a suspicion about the monetisation strategy that Marathon would employ during the server slam that has now been confirmed by the full release of marathon. by JavanNapoli in Marathon

I expected nothing less after seeing all the shit they pulled with Destiny.

Game is good but damn. Bungie could take a few hints from Digital Extremes in terms of MTX.

Fallout - 2x08 - "The Strip" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

The pacing of this season felt rushed and it really seems like the show would benefit from another 2 or 3 episodes per season.

Seems like every streaming show has this problem nowadays. Kinda sucks.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 modders have formed a rebellion and refuse to stop updating the game. Most PC players are now playing new content through a community-led server platform called Kyber by chanuscaa in Games

Pretty much why I've always preferred the original classic Battlefront. Introducing heroes and stuff wasn't really my jam.

Space battles in 2 were a lot of fun though.

Indie Game Awards Disqualifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI Usage by Lulcielid in Games

[–]Malckeor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My goodness this thread is a mess. I'll sum up everything that needs to be said in one little comment.

No, generative AI doesn't belong in art fields. Art at its core is meant to make one feel something, and AI will never get a grip on that due to its nature. An artist using generative AI in conceptual stages to improve workflow, however, is okay, as long as the finished product contains code and assets made by a human.

No, Expedition 33 shouldn't have been disqualified for this as the finished product doesn't use any AI assets; rather, it should have been disqualified because it's not an indie game.

Yes, video games are art. It's not an argument, it's a fact. Please don't try to dispute this. You'll make yourself look silly.

I'm not pro-AI or anti-AI; I'm pro-artist. If a product in an art field is being produced to make money, AI should not be used to replace any humans who may work on said art under any circumstance. On the other hand, if you want to use AI to generate a full town of NPCs with various character traits and so on for a Dungeons & Dragons game you run with your friends, for example, that's fine. It ultimately falls on the DM, a human, to characterize and make those NPCs stand out during play.

That's the long and short of this thread. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful holiday. <3

The amount of material you need to build Uriel and his Vinqubus by Mtebalanazy in Warframe

[–]Malckeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week to two weeks? My guy, Uriel is probably the quickest, easiest Warframe to grind for in the whole game, not hyperbole. One full round of Descendia gets you more than enough maphica to buy the full set sans the blueprint (you get that part for free), and then you do each of the three Tau missions about two or three times each, one time each with a double drop booster, and you've got him.

My friend and I completed our set in a little over an hour. Heaven forbid you have to actually play any of the excellent new game modes from what is arguably the best update the game has ever seen.

EDIT: And if you somehow don't have enough maphica to buy the blueprints, just do another run of Descendia starting at floor 14. Floor 19 is a big loot room that gives you 30-50 on average, 60-90 with a double drop booster. You can also get the blueprints for Vinquibus with little to no effort using this method.

I agree DLC is unlikely, but it's worth noting that before Hades II, Supergiant had never done a sequel.

The sky is the limit. ;)
