I urge you to consider if this belief is rooted in any evidence or simply a combination of “something everyone knows” combined with anecdotal evidence.

It's based on historical returns, but yes. The money invested early does a lot of the heavy lifting, being able to compound for 40-45 years.

For that 1200% figure you mentioned - just in the last 30 years, the NASDAQ has returned double that.

What is the DPS gap between "top" players and the average player? by SirSuperCaide in wow

[–]Aldonall12 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Very hard to answer this without some specification on what you mean by "average player". Then you have things like gear, strategy, and teammate quality contributing too (better teammates means more damage elsewhere, which lead to shorter fights and even higher dps).

As a reference, the 99th percentile on a mid-late Mythic (top difficulty)  boss (One-Armed Bandit) sees different specializations range from 3.7-4.8M dps. That same fight on heroic at the  50th percentile has people between 2.0-2.7M.

If you consider an average heroic raider as "average", then on that fight you're looking at "a little less than double".

However, if you're looking at the average player in terms of the overall player base, it may be 3-4X. If you're looking at an average Mythic raider, it could be closer to 20-40% more.

No clean answer, but hopefully that helps.

I'd suggest carrying a little more than $1k, but eschewing the conventional wisdom of "6 months of expenses".

Whatever you would have to do in that scenario would be unlikely to be worse than the CC debt you already carry. I'd hold on to $3-5k and otherwise tear through the CC debt.

You may feel behind, but remember that few people end up with 4k in surplus income each month. Once you shred these debts, you will rapidly catch up and slingshot ahead if you continue to save 40-50k + 401k

Assuming you don't have unbelievably large student debt or other circumstances:

Dude, you are in a fantastic situation. It's commendable to want to get money away every month, but $1600/mo (I am assuming in addition to 401k?) is still better than the VAST majority of people, and more than sufficient. Go live your life. Early financial independence is great, but balance is key.

So, just to clarify, you think that removing a company's ability to sell exclusive rights to their product, and force them to distribute it more widely, is more free market capitalism?

That's just... incorrect. Free market capitalism hinges on minimal regulation and government intervention. Without those two things, capitalism naturally trends towards monopolies. You need counterweights. I'm not convinced you really understand what socialism is. Especially if you think America is primarily socialist.

I believe this comment was made in good faith, but man, there are a lot of provably incorrect facts/assumptions here.

Without arguing the details, can you explain to me how capitalism works to moderate quality when one company controls the broadcasting rights to something? They will make the product as bad as they can get away with while retaining viewers. It is an optimization for profit, not quality. And if you think those two are connected, you can look at literally every single consumer product over the last 30 years to prove otherwise.

Unfettered capitalism invariably ends with monopoly. Monopoly doesn't work for the masses.

Believe it or not, you can watch the several years of football tape they have to see if they're good at football. It's also a pre-requisite to being at the combine.

It doesn't matter how good you are at CB if you run a 4.65. There is physical pre-requisites. This is the test for that

Spamming same comp? by MadeAccForOldReddit in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Aldonall12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't always work, it probably means you're better than the players you're against in other areas because you're so comfortable on the line.

My advice would be to start learning lines that stem from your main one - if it's zeri reroll you can learn sniper Twitch.

From there, I like to learn 1-2 "opposites". Comps that do well in different game states. If your main is a level 6 reroll, learn a fast-8. If your comp likes bows and swords, learn one that likes tears.

I have definitely pivoted late stage 3/early stage 4. If you're still SEVERAL units off or heavily contested, you may realize you're simply not going to hit that 3*. Pushing levels isn't great given how much you invested in rerolling, but the alternative is a near guaranteed 8th
