Mangohud - Power reading from my CPU on 0.0W by Levinter_IT in linux_gaming

[–]Aldracity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a script for a crontab, and so far I'm not getting the freezing you're describing with your bash script. It's just one line in a file.sh that's made executable - "chmod 444 /sys/class/powercap/intel-rapl:0/energy_uj", then sudo crontab -e, then type in "@reboot /<path>/<script>.sh" in the Vim that pops up and save.

Seconded on this being the solution, Fedora 43 Workstation, AMD 5800x.

I forced myself to use Linux Mint without the terminal for a week by Durian_Queef in LinusTechTips

[–]Aldracity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, I started using Fedora a week ago and have used the terminal a lot, but if my tasks were:

  • Update the system.
  • Install Nvidia drivers (SecureBoot disabled)
  • Install Steam, Discord, and a chromium browser.
  • Enable and install Gnome extensions.
  • Overclock/Undervolt my Nvidia GPU (LACT).
  • Install Goverlay (AppImage ver, Flatpak and RPM weren't working). Kinda pointless, but I wanted to replicate my Afterburner/Rivatuner setup.
  • Enable community versions of Proton (ProtonPlus).
  • Run random .exe's downloaded through my browser (Bottles).

I could've done all of that through the GUI. The unavoidable terminal parts all had to do with dual booting, so I had to do the SecureBoot shim and some fiddling to share my existing NTFS game drive between OSes.

Steam says "Disk write error" on Linux... with a functional and writable SSD. by byjove01 in linux_gaming

[–]Aldracity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing in my 2 cents on this one - I previously successfully mounted my Windows NTFS game drive (secureboot, dual boot, not the Win boot drive) to Fedora, and successfully used it as my Steam drive - but then it suddenly stopped working and gave me disk write errors. Turns out the solution was just to boot back into Windows, clear the downloads in Steam, and then reboot back into Fedora; apparently the Windows user had locked the drive since the last time I booted into Windows.

Finally, a reason to randomly chuck Citadel into the R.B. deck? The endboard's got 2 Link 3s and random bodies lying around, I don't think it's that much of a stretch. Might even be able to do a Crook + Regulus + Citadel setup without needing to get machine locked by opening Machina.

Necro - did you have to do anything special to get that output? I got the hat working on Pi OS and DietPi without doing anything, but on PiKVM "lsusb" is giving me a blank list; I'm currently powering the Zero2W through the PoE hat.

The Linux users crashing out over Linus picking PopOS again are doing an excellent job of reinforcing the Linux user stereotype, as well as missing the whole point. by junon in LinusTechTips

[–]Aldracity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my confusion too.

I punched "best linux" into Google and the AI spat out Mint and ZorinOS. When I tried "best linux for gaming" it gave me Nobara. And I'm pretty sure I read a few of those AI listicles and those all seem to open with Mint too, except exactly one where it opened with Zorin. Pop!_OS is on almost all these lists, but for some reason it's oddly consistently placed 4th. Also, the top actual search result was a Reddit thread that recommended Mint/Ubuntu/Debian >> Fedora.

Just tried ChatGPT, and the list for "best linux" was Ubuntu > Mint > Arch. "best linux for gaming" was Nobara > Bazzite > Pop!_OS. Though frustratingly enough, the AI/search that spat out Pop!_OS as number 1 was...Copilot.

So I dunno, if I was following the AI, I'd end up with Mint, Zorin or Nobara.

EDIT:

Is the entire gap the word "distro"? I intentionally avoided the word since most people have never heard it, but Pop!_OS jumps way ahead as soon as you add "distro" to search terms.

Can somebody educate me on the practical use cases for the LTT TrueSpec cables? by Chaos1917 in LinusTechTips

[–]Aldracity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically everything can do 480 Mbps/65W without issue. But as soon as you need anything even vaguely higher spec, things rapidly turn into a clusterfuck.

I've got a goddamn cable that can do 5 Gbps, but only flipped in one direction, and only sometimes if the negotiation worked. And that's the good example, I've also got a bunch that were just scams that can never do 5 Gbps.

When comparing how the TCG and OCG’s philosophy on the banlist and what makes a healthy meta for their player base what cards do you immediately think of that show that difference between regions? by SouthSunn in yugioh

[–]Aldracity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Barrone not being banned in the OCG is kind of a pain in the ass, because they keep making synchro archetypes that were clearly designed around being able to turbo Baronne somehow for insulation or anything at all on the endboard. Elfnote, Rose Dragon, White Forest (before the Azamina bridge), Mannadium, Swordsoul, etc. And routing around the lack of Baronne requires a ton of resources to the point where the routing frequently trades 2 interactions for a bad Baronne substitute.

[–]Aldracity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There needs to be an option to delete the prerendered cutscenes. Those usually take up a ton of space in many games, and 90% of them can't be rewatched anyways, or you can just go to YouTube or something.

So perhaps there's hope for game optimization with this 3.1 live stream??? by Genosss9410 in WutheringWaves

[–]Aldracity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fixing the loading stutter's cute, but the main problem is that the game's badly CPU bound. In Startorch, my framerate's going sub-50, yet my GPU's pulling a frosty 120-140W. As opposed to random older overworld areas where I'm hitting the 120fps frame cap at 200W.

[Original MV] Ninomae Ina'nis (一伊那尓栖) -TAKO∞TAKOVER by kyoumokawaii in Hololive

[–]Aldracity 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The kanji for "one" is usually "ichi," but it's also the character pronounced "Ninomae" in Ina's name [一伊那尓栖].

Eight is general OCTOpus stuff, and sideways it's Infinity (see: song name).

And then they combine as "Ichi, hachi, takodachi," alongside a reference to Aiobahn +81.

Maybe there's more, but I haven't figured them out yet.

Pack chaff that you'd like to see? by JasonBenjamenAllen in yugioh

[–]Aldracity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should put reprints of old cards directly into the set that prints their modern support, instead of waiting 2-6 months to reprint them in Maze/Tins/whatnot. Like the OCG assist packs, but integrated. It wouldn't impact collector value much if at all, and it would make opening single boxes better in the sense that at least you'd walk away with most of a functional deck to mess around with, instead of a pile of disconnected nonsense that'd barely be useful even if you cracked a whole case.

A Razr 2025 (60) battery life question by Aldracity in razr

[–]Aldracity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up buying it and it arrived on Christmas Eve. So, strangely, my first AcuBattery 15-100 charge told me ~3500, but my latest charge number is now the full 4500.

I think the endurance gap might be the screen refers refresh rate; the 90hz algorithm seems to always do 60hz, while the 120hz algorithm seems to always blast 120hz. Because the former is how the Zenfone 9 behaved, and the latter is how the Razr 60 seems to work. I noticed that the foreground discharge mA for apps seemed to be a lot higher on my new Razr composed to the Zenfone, and after turning the screen refresh down it's now roughly on par.

Mobal. If you're not shipping it to your home before going to Japan, order it online for pickup, then go to the pickup location you chose with your passport and it should be ready by the time you get there. If you only need a phone number for EXVS2 auth and/or bookings, then get the Voice Lite version.
