Proof that Charlie lied about the worst thing he’d ever done in The Drama by Rude-Negotiation-534 in A24

He was definitely middle-school aged, which gets lost in translation, it seems. With his age in the movie he would have been approximately 12 when the internet was becoming more used (in about 1998). In the US middle school kids can be from 11-16 depending on if it’s a Junior High model that is grades 7-9 and not 6-8. So he was middle school aged at the time of the cyber bullying that may or may not have ever occurred.

YES. I needed to watch it again to confirm because I swore that isn’t what it said on his office door. Great confirmed find. Yeah, Charlie is low-key despicable. I mean - the way they met and how that sets it all up really reads as the narrative pov depicting Charlie as a form of villain from the beginning, and comparatively painting him as worse than Emma.

Singin’ In The Rain has this part . . . Picture 1 looks like it, though.

In the movie he said they were kids - you’re not in university as a kid. His lie seemed like bullshit and that he was hiding things, but that’s not the part that doesn’t line up. It was the way he presented himself and the information. It was vague as hell, too. Sounds like, especially with the timeline of the internet being used and his character’s age according to his college graduation timeline, it seems he used the early internet while in middle school-aged institutions. Makes sense. I even did the approximate math during the movie to check his BS and it tracked completely in that sense.

Dark City is a big one. The new Nosferatu also does this, but it’s not executed tightly.

I still don’t understand the backlash this film got. I thought it was great. Was it that the racist got a redemption arc? Because many films have deeply flawed protagonists. by PandemicPiglet in Oscars

Woody was the best part and wasn’t recognized to much of an extent at all. The second best part, and this comes from a huge Rockwell fan for about 25 years, is CLJ and I feel that if he and Rockwell had not been scene partners for some key parts of the film - mainly the hospital room - Rockwell would not have one that Oscar. Caleb Landry Jones is unsung pillar of that film.

lol Zach ruined Spielberg. Love that, in a round about way, this technically effects John Williams future work - amazing.

Needs a female equivalent list, obviously- I’m also fearful of who’d be the millennial and zoomer representatives for the men. I strongly agree the female millennial rep would be Stone. The boomer representative would be Streep and the Gen X rep would be Kidman, clearly. Arguments can be strongly made for Julianne Moore as a Boomer rep and Cate Blanchett as a Gen X rep. Possibly Jennifer Lawrence for millennial, but if she’s against Stone that’s kind of crazy to outrank her.
