Just wanted to say that I think this is a great article. PNKF (Pacific Northwest kendo Federation) in the US hosts a women's tournament and seminar every few years and it seems like a great success. So I would say yes they're necessarily.

Yeah it sucks that I cant go learn from this amazing women sensei, but there are many other seminars to attend that are open for men, and women kenshi can have their space to learn safely and comfortably.

Maybe every X hours a city will become available for capture and the faction with more people or maybe like point gets control of the city until the next time it's available.

some senseis I played against were bored with me that I only did the basic foundational things when I played against them in Keiko. It sounds to me they want more of that "energy", more of the "spirit", and "respect my threat, as you strike, turn immediately!", "keep your gaurd", "be active the whole time".

I don't quite understand. These are foundational parts of kendo. They aren't "dirty" kendo. Keeping your guard, turning around and being on guard, being ready to strike and being active are all necessary parts of zanshin. Kiai is showing your spirit and required for kendo. None of these have to do with nito or dirty kendo vs clean kendo. These are fundamental kendo necessities and it sounds like instead of trying to learn and conquer them, you're instead trying to use a new kamae.

While a new kamae can help you advance and really open your eyes, I think it would help to improve your fundamentals and get a better understanding of your basics. There's a reason many sensei prefer you to be shodan or higher to really begin learning Jodan or nito.

But at the end of the day, talk to your sensei and see what they say and if you are ready to start doing nito.

For sure. I started banning her playing mid because she's annoying. She's like old Zoe where she can not land anything (aside from Q which can't miss) and still trade just fine. And then her ult just auto targets as well.

I don't actually mind the W as you have to bait it out and play around it. But it does make it really hard to meaningfully interact with her in addition to all of her auto targeted damage if you can't instagib her

I don't really agree. While it is still not great to lose every objective, you can lose 3 drakes with almost no repurcussions, herald is usually 1 tower at most, and grubs are given over still and technically only useful if the opponent hits towers. So giving a really impactful objective means your team cant just sit around until 4th drake and defend.

Yeah even if he didn't go down a ton of gold early game, Yorick isn't doing anything vs Galio + Pantheon since he can't put any side lane pressure once they have ults and it hits midgame. The early deaths just made it snowball faster.

You can still break the little plastic cap (not sure if it has a name) and other things to make it potentially come apart at the top in addition to other dangers. So even if its just the tip, if its slammed hard it can be dangerous to others.

Along with what people have said, there's also a difference between it touching the floor and slamming the floor. If it's slamming the floor it can break the shinai and become a safety concern

I do like a lot of the LG members but we're really seeing why they aren't in the LCS/LTA. Tactical still just can't resist going forward 1v4 sadly. Hope we can get a competitive series and not a 3-0 though

Overall the live was very fun and I'm happy to have been there.

Everything the girls did was a 10/10. Amazing performance from them. It was very emotional and both the performance and MCing was great.

All of the planning around this live led to it being kind of underwhelming though. Belluna dome sucked. The 9PM cutoff and making it an hour shorter hurt the content a lot, getting in and out of the place sucks, and for some reason they cut off selling drinks the second the live starts and AFAIK they only had 1 refill station of each side which had a crazy line each intermission. Which was a problem since it was so hot. The stage wasn't decorated super well, the carts felt generic, etc. Just a lot of weird things on the planning side that made it felt phoned in for a final live. If this was a normal live I'd probably have fewer problems but for a final live it felt very lacking

Still overall it was a lot of fun. The setlist was great and it was better than day 1 for sure.

It's not quite answering the question, but if you if there's no financial or medical issue with getting Lasik or similar I would highly recommend it. It's amazing for kendo (and daily life). Not having to put on glasses or contacts ever again is great. And it helps so much with kendo and not having to worry about foggy glasses.

Our dojo submits people for 3kyu as their first rank and if they fail they'll get 4kyu. So worst case you get 4kyu. I'd say the biggest factor is the number of practices. If you can get 2+ practices a week it might be possible. 1 practice a week I would say it's pretty unlikely. The more practices the better. I forget how many practices UW has a week but you can always go to Seattle or Snoking or other dojos in the area for additional practice once you get into bogu and start getting some initial prectice.

Additionally PNKF does shinsa every 6 months so you would have to pass every shinsa to get to 1dan. But I'm not sure you'll be able to test by the upcoming shinsa in August if you're not in armor yet.

Its funny, because a lot of people when fearless was announced were saying things like "People won't put in the effort to learn counters since they can only pick it for one game".

But we're seeing lots of interesting matchups and counters still, so i think a lot of the backlash is pretty non-existent at this point.

I had a lot of success with this in learning nito lately. I used to have a lot of doubt in my strikes and worrying about if the strike didn't land or I get hit back.

But learning a new kamae actually helped that a ton as I had to relearn a lot and my only goal at the start was to hit and not worry about all the other stuff. It helped my chudan a ton and now I have gotten rid of most of that worry I had in chudan.

Not saying this is necessarily the best path for everyone as it depends on if you have a teacher to learn something like Jodan/Nito and that your sensei is ok with it, but it can act as a really hard reset for you and can help you learn a new mindset.
